The origin of the repressed character of the Orientals

After reading "Lolita" and "Letter from a Strange Woman", I
am amazed at the difference in feelings between Easterners and Westerners.
Westerners do not repress their feelings and release recklessly (and whether it is ethical or not, but they dare to release) while Easterners are too reserved and restrained, which causes so many regrets.
And this difference comes from our childhood, and the constraints and education we have received.

"Lolita" enthusiastically "seduced" his stepfather due to his young and precocious maturity.
"A Letter from a Strange Woman" and Xu Jinglei's childhood was spent in peeping and heartbroken waiting. This is their difference. East-West gap.
The former makes us feel romantic and lovely, the latter makes us feel melancholy and beautiful.

The origin is that we can't release love well when we are children. So there is still a certain repression of love in adulthood. To form a unique way of love in the East.

Lolita quotes

  • Humbert: From here to that old car you know so well is a stretch of twenty-five paces. Make those twenty-five steps. With me. Now.

Lolita: You're saying you'll give us the money if I go to a motel with you?

Humbert: No, no, no. I mean leave here now, and come live with me. And die with me, and everything with me.

    Lolita: You're crazy.

  • Humbert: What are you eating?

Lolita: It's called a jawbreaker. It's supposed to break your jaw. Want one?
