Looking at it, I couldn't help but think of Hawthorne's scarlet letter, Molly, who was abandoned by a man and charged with adultery, her good sewing skills, and the red dress on Tilly's body, are they similar to the scarlet letter? And the protagonist of this movie is a grown-up Pearl---Tilly, who seems to be returning home for revenge. Stripped of Hawthorne's religious irony, the film's focus is on the lethality of gossip and hypocritical moral kidnapping. Lies and gossip drive the good people to the end, tilly finally breaks through the curse, like God destroys the sin city of Sodom, she destroys the whole town with fire.

Although the plot is relatively simple, the heroine is full of drama, from the beginning to the end. "Is this Miss Dior?"

I thought the plot was a story about the old-fashioned heroine who went home to wash herself and reconcile with the villagers and hugged her loyal dog. However, the story went to an unpredictable situation, and the loyal dog died. The police carried the scapegoat and the father was a bitch mother. Letting go hides the cruel and evil reality similar to Dogtown under the seemingly comedy element. In the end, she burned the whole town and walked away with her head high. In fact, it was a kind of abandonment after despair of the town.

The Dressmaker quotes

  • Una Pleasance: Style and decency. Some designers just don't seem to know the difference, do they?

  • Molly Dunnage: You can transform people. That's very powerful. Use it.
