A monument to idealism

Just like A Dream of Red Mansions, EVA's aftermath probably doesn't need to start with a plot summary.

After many years, I revisited this drama on station B, which added a lot of freshness because of the blurring of previous memories. At the end of the 24th episode, the screen was full of barrages saying to quickly switch to the second episode of the theatrical version, and I didn't know why at the time. After watching the TV version and theatrical version completely, I realized that, as a carefully crafted "designated ending" after getting rid of the problem of insufficient funds, the second episode of the theatrical version is naturally more in line with the overall style of the whole play, and also pulls the play out. on a grander level.

But what I want to talk about is the 26 episodes of the TV version that have the meaning of "dog tail continuation of mink".

The first time I watched this episode, I did feel a little lost because of the amount of information. After watching it twice, I want to talk about my understanding of the true meaning of the author of this episode:

1. Fear of loneliness drove Ikari Shinji to obliterate his own existence, hoping to be recognized and accepted by meeting the expectations of others; but even so he was still hurt, which in turn aroused his instinct to escape several times; The hesitation between "avoiding" and "receiving" is the source of his pain.

2. The existence of individuals needs to be defined by boundaries, and the existence of boundaries limits freedom at the same time, so "individual" and "constrained" are interdependent. There is no absolute freedom for the individual from the "earth". So "born" is not an option.

3. People's cognition of the world and self depends on the collision with the "boundary" of others, so the cognition of the real "self" and "world" actually stems from the supervisory feeling obtained when colliding with others. Therefore, the pain of "joining the WTO", in fact, often comes from the prejudice against the world instilled by oneself or others.

4. The way to get rid of the pain caused by these prejudices is to constantly seek the truth. Explore the world with an open mind, and constantly recognize and accept the true self in the process. The former gave birth to the latter, and the latter became the foundation of the former. In this way, the ultimate goal of the "Human Completion Plan", which is to complete the broken heart of mankind, is achieved.

This kind of theme of pinning "existence" on subjective ideas is really a monument of idealism.

After talking about the main topic, let's chat a little more.

Watching EVA this time has a deep feeling, because I have seen the shadow of myself in real life in the protagonist. Ikari Shinji and Asuka pinned the meaning of their existence on driving the EVA, but they actually wanted to seal themselves in to protect themselves from possible damage from the outside world. Many of us may have had similar thoughts. Subjectively or subconsciously, escaping from reality actually happens every day.

But EVA tells us that there is no escape, and if you want to live happily, you must stand still (here, a similar monologue in the Dahe drama "Ping Qingsheng" suddenly comes to mind).

In addition to the rationale, I feel that the success of EVA is also inseparable from the director's artistic handling: the reasonable use of colorimetry makes the picture "sharp"; the bold use of lens image distortion enhances the tense atmosphere; the background music is not the picture Instead, it has become a separate dimension of expression; the white space in the plot and composition is just right, reflecting the oriental aesthetic taste.

Of course, we can't forget to mention that the twenty-six songs of "Fly me to the moon" performed in different styles at the end of the film accompanied by the reflection of Ayanari dancing in the water under the slowly rising full moon are definitely classics :-)
