I don't know where to start my evaluation. I can only say that this movie is too good. I can't imagine a war criminal can have such rich, delicate and touching emotions.

As my friend has said before, the movie is light, it's light, it's unflavored or earth-shattering, but the lightness is so heartfelt that it brings tears to my eyes. It is very close to life. It seems to be a facet of one's own life. It is so real that people can't tell the difference between it and the behavior in my life and the people I meet in my life. The behavior of the children in the film is very reasonable. , is also very decent, but when these things that children are accustomed to and take for granted are shown from a third-person perspective, we find that these things hurt the elderly so much, but parents always love their children. Maybe you feel bad about your child?

Life is so sad. When you choose your own life, you are doomed to miss the old age of your parents. When you choose to accompany your parents, your life will inevitably be fettered. It is understandable and even necessary to leave your parents, but it is just another aspect. As a result, parents will also have to bear the incomparable loneliness. For most children, leaving their parents means their own lives, and for parents, it is the beginning of an empty and lonely life. The children in the film have started their own lives, with their own careers and families, and their parents are happy for them. What the film does not show but it is easy to imagine how empty the old man's life in the countryside is. Another great thing about this movie is that it doesn't criticize anyone. As Noriko said, children are also in a dilemma in the face of personal life and retirement. After all, no one can have both. It shows the loneliness and bleakness of the old man's life as a result of the children's personal lives, yet it recognizes this ruthless law.

This movie doesn't have too many emotional scenes, even when the mother died, it was still very light, the grandfather in the film only said "it seems to be another hot day". However, its tragic color is still very strong, because the main contradiction in the film is not children and the elderly, but the natural law of birth, old age, sickness and death, and the behavior of all children in it is because of this law. Precisely because birth, aging, illness and death are unavoidable, we can only live well at the moment and cannot escape this law. After watching this movie, this feeling of powerlessness in the face of natural law arises spontaneously.

This light sadness is almost taking my breath away, so I think about it for a while, let’s write this first.

Tokyo Story quotes

  • Sanpei Numata: I often wish at least one of my sons were alive.

Osamu Hattori: Must have been hard to lose both of them.

    [to Shukichi]

Osamu Hattori: Didn't you lose one?

Shukichi Hirayama: Yes, my second son.

Osamu Hattori: I've had enough of war.

Shukichi Hirayama: Yes, indeed. To lose your children is hard, but living with them isn't always easy either. A real dilemma.

  • Sanpei Numata: I'm afraid we expect too much of our children. They lack spirit. They lack ambition. I've told that to my son. He said that there are too many people in Tokyo. That it's hard to get ahead. What do you think? Young people today have no backbone. Where is there spirit? That's not how I raised him!
