2004 Rules of Desire

Director Ai Mu Duhua's 2004 work << Bad Education>>, some people say it is a new version of the director's old work "The Rules of Desire". Indeed, the themes of both are inseparable from human desire. Maybe some people will say it's a critique of religion, but I don't think that's the point.

Among them we will see transgender people, priests who sexually abuse children, and younger brothers who conspire to murder their own brothers. Even when the audience learned that the protagonist was violated by a priest when he was a child, he did not seek revenge for the priest when he grew up and became a transgender, but only extorted the priest for his own selfish desires, just for money.

Under the cross-flow of desires, everything happens naturally.

Compared with the previous work "The Rules of Desire", "Bad Education" is better than the previous work in terms of script, rhythm processing and layers. If "Talk To Her" is the sincere and touching side of the director, then "Bad Education" can be said to be the performance of the director's excellent directing skills. The film is rich in layers, and it can even be said to be complicated. The director handles it in an orderly manner.

The audience's attention was initially caught by the unknown plot, but it was not too difficult. Until the end and the twist, the drama is pushed to the extreme.

However, the ending didn't have the expected roar, no sensational revenge, or even a dash of moral judgment.

When you think that Anglic will get revenge when he finds out that his first love was killed by Yawang like this, but in the end he just drove Yawang away, the movie was still released, and Yawang became a movie star because of this.

Dingjing lightly explained the subsequent encounters of different characters, and the movie ended.

Just like reality,

living in sin, but neither you nor I have the ability to judge.

There are prosperous ones, and there are those who are going to perish and go to hell.

This is how life goes on.

Bad Education quotes

  • Ignacio: I think I've just lost my faith at this moment, so I no longer believe in God or hell. As I don't believe in hell, I'm not afraid. And without fear I'm capable of anything.
