If you are a woman, maybe I should advise you not to see such a film that is shrouded in Romanian politics.
Let go of the obsession with long shots and ignore the emphasised production principle of no music. Whether the movie is good or not is really just a matter of whether it will touch your heart.
And indeed, this movie touched me.
Illegal abortion, black doctors, sex trafficking, love affairs... This is a story that happened in one day, but it is difficult to simply tell a "simple" story clearly.
There are two styles of movies that I like: one where the whole process is slow and calm, and the ending turns into a thump; And for this low-budget Romanian film, it can be seen as an interesting unification of the two styles.
After the two women endured the stress and unease of a full day of abortions, the director left the final cut on the dining room table. The background is a "new couple quarrel" wedding, two female college students from the countryside, sitting quietly, our heroine suddenly turned her head and silently looked at the camera, through the glass, it was heartbreakingly calm.
This is all a woman can live in her life—believing in love, but it turns out that one person goes to illegal abortion; believing in money, and in the end, you can only give your body to a doctor in exchange for the treatment of a friend; believing in the future, greatness is to give. Husband spends his life "making mashed potatoes strictly according to his mother's method"...
