mind blowing feeling

After watching Luo Hongzhen's new work, I have a feeling of opening my mind. The director's integration of various types of film styles has reached an unprecedented level, and I admire such a bold and ambitious director in Korea. There are two parallel edits that are well done, one is the exorcism scene between the wizard and the Japanese, the other is the climax of the scene between the woman in white and the police, and the priest's assistant and the Japanese. The director deliberately set up a lot of disturbing plots through various methods, which caused the audience to have extremely huge differences in the identification of the good and evil of the main characters. Unexpectedly, this has also become the critic of the film.

Compared with the previous two works, the director's control has indeed weakened a lot. On the one hand, it is the rhythm. The lengthy and slightly procrastinating look and feel makes the suspenseful atmosphere start to be discouraged at the middle end. I read his interview before watching the film and he revealed the theme of the film: why victims become victims. I am very interested in this topic. However, after watching the whole film, I feel that this core explanation is not too prominent, but gradually disappears into various techniques. Simply put: the show is too flamboyant and overshadows the theme.

But then again, the three works of Director Luo can be favored by Cannes, and the precise vision of Cannes can be seen. Looking forward to the director's next work to bring us more thoughts.
