comfort

When I just watched Solace, I thought of Long Mian when I first watched it. This kind of consciousness is not easy to express in the form of a movie. I personally think there are some problems. At the beginning, the capable person was still visible to the touch. Why did he not need any medium and directly understand the past and the present? I think the form is biased. In addition, the plot and logic are a bit far-fetched and out of touch. Because the murderer played by Colin Farrell has the superhuman ability to predict the future, so he can predict everything, including the manslaughter of the perverted writer and the actions of the policewoman? First of all, there is no explanation in terms of ability, so let us temporarily think that he has such amazing ability, no need to explain, this is the setting of the movie, no problem. The murderer thought he was liberating the patients from their pain or before they were sick, and then let the police solve the case and find out that the victim was actually dying, so that the family could be relieved. He wanted John to take his class, and John probably agreed with him to some extent, even though he himself was extremely conflicted and tangled. But why didn't he just go to John directly, and prove his ability in this way, and then meet John? So is there any necessary connection between the two of them and the policewoman? Why must the policewoman be mixed in? I didn't understand the logic, what is the role of the policewoman between the two capable people? Also, why did the killer have to ask John to kill him? Is it to give him a head start for his succession? Maybe, let john take the first step, accept his ideas, his approach.
comfort? Maybe that's what the movie's title means? To give eternal relief to those who are not yet in pain but will soon be in pain? Solace

Solace quotes

  • [first lines]

Joe Merriwether: [sniffing the cigar] Cuban.

Agent Katherine Cowles: What's the word, Sawyer?

Agent Sawyer: Looks like a match.

Agent Katherine Cowles: [holds up three fingers to Merriwether]

Agent Sawyer: [on the phone] Yeah, it's Joe. We've got a series. Same M O, same signature, no DNA. Not one goddamn shred.

  • Agent Katherine Cowles: Dr. Clancy, before we go upstairs, with all due respect, I don't hold an ounce of confidence in the paranormal in general. I think it's a sham. I hope that's okay.

John Clancy: No problem at all. I feel the same about shrinks. After only one thing, your money. Give them your little finger, they'll take your whole hand.

Agent Katherine Cowles: Whoever said that has obviously never met a good one.

John Clancy: It was Sigmund Freud.
