did not seek the truth

Watching the works of film master Antonioni for the first time. In the process of watching and the communication after watching, it redefines my understanding of film and art. It has been a long time since I have seen such a work that shocks the soul and touches so many thoughts. During the process of thinking, I have experienced from "thinking about the social and class positions expressed by movies" when watching movies to "thinking about film art itself, thinking about art itself". transformation. As a high school student who is just interested, I am also inevitably influenced by European and American themed drama movies, and like to think about the theme of the movie from the ideological level, and this time watching the movie seems to be a time for this kind of habitual thinking mode. Baptism has made me admire the seventh art as a carrier and see more possibilities. I will grind this film again, and at the same time revise the film review, until friends who have not seen the film can also feel how unprecedented and great the theme of the film is.

The film abandons all social visions and prejudices, uses the id as the leading factor of motivation, and observes the world from the perspective of pure art, pure objective photographers seeking the beauty of life, and achieves a state of so-called returning to the original. Including the factors that drive Thomas (the male protagonist in the film, the photographer) to act are all id-level needs such as desire: whether it is a non-opposition of hippies when driving on the streets; records of homosexuality and poodles; Observing; buying a modern propeller that is not practical but full of money, playing with sisters who come to the door without meaning; he is always attracted by new things, driven by my needs. He approaches them with curiosity without any standpoint, admiring them, or engaging with them for lust and playfulness.

Thomas is a person who has an extremely sensitive sense of smell and unconditional recognition of beauty. From his point of view, in this era, the pixel blocks zoomed to the extreme and the color blocks in Bill's picture are the most abstract manifestations of beauty. Beauty is also a corpse in a dark park reflecting the light of a theater stage, a beautiful woman standing in a dark park. poses, moves to the rhythm of The Yardbirds, smoky bodies, masquerade white-faced hippies. For to Thomas they were but one component of the beauty of action.

Thomas' vision of society is without any position, pure exploration, magnification, observation and pursuit.

When it comes to the proposition of reality and illusion as stated in mainstream views, Thomas is not looking for the truth, but discovers the truth in the process of pursuing the beauty of ritual and behavior. Or in his eyes, he was just exploring beauty, and this beauty was embodied as the truth of things. Imagine if Thomas didn't see the corpse as a work of art [beauty], why would he be reluctant to call the police, but chose to contact his agent, Lun?

We follow Thomas' perspective and become witnesses and explorers of the beauty of the times. At the same time, we ask questions about the criteria for judging existence and non-existence: Is it true that what is recognized by people really exists? What is not recognized by others will become an illusion that has never existed over time?

Speaking of this (recognized), one cannot help but think about the function of art, as Wilde said: "Art is useless, because the purpose of art is only to create emotions, it is not intended to guide or influence behavior in any way. Art is extremely barren, and the joy of art lies in its barrenness . It is based on the abuse of this level of being recognized as being.

And this is best illustrated by Antonioni in the movie. That is, beauty has no real meaning in the world.

Zooming in again and again is not so much a search for truth as a search for beauty. Thomas has always stood in a completely objective position, he is just an observer, or a master of appreciation. Be drawn to the beauty of the act itself. He saw beauty in hippie baseball and interacted with it. The meaning of magnification can also be reflected in this.

From the beginning Thomas watched women smoking in silence, he just watched, and later developed [the first zoom] to play with the sisters who came to the door, and later participated in the game of hippies. This may be of the same nature: being attracted by beauty or being held back by the id, approaching and magnifying in order to feel beauty and release the ego. Thomas enlarging photos in pursuit of beauty is similar in nature to the above behavior. According to his freewheeling rules and curious attitude to the world, there is no such thing as saying "No one pays attention to the truth and I choose to disguise myself into this cruel society.

As a representative group of rebellious spirit, hippies are the freshest blood of the times, and Thomas is a person who is easily attracted by new things. He appreciates hippies as a social group dispassionately, otherwise he wouldn't choose to give them money when everyone yells at them.

The beauty of form may have no social value and practicality, but it is an abstract beauty that cannot be seen but is ubiquitous in the world. The figurative embodiment in the movie is the most unforgettable ending——Thomas finally picked up the non-existent baseball thrown by the hippies, and actually heard the sound of the baseball, and then disappeared.

This is the Thomas of beauty itself in the act of identifying the beauty of this era of hippies.

Digression: The male protagonist is really similar to JamesMcavoy... I still feel this way on the premise that I have enjoyed all of James' works several times, interviewed on the red carpet of variety shows and other activities several times.

Not only the appearance from certain angles, but also the overall temperament in terms of movement habits, eye color, physique, and accent are very close... unbelievable.
