After watching "Roses and Red Lotus", the rhythm was so slow that I fell asleep on the first day of watching it, mainly because I was too sleepy, and I was born with extreme poverty.
I originally thought of this as a horror movie, and I didn't find it scary after watching it for a long time, but it was a very elegant movie. There are only some conflicts and strange colors in the elegance, soothing music and heavy camera shots; quiet countryside and dignified houses; young girls and pale faces; beautiful women and hideous expressions; father in his prime and gray hair; the joy of two at the beginning and the gloom of one at the end. All the unreasonable, plus all the suspense set by the director, makes people look very heavy. When the ending comes and all the truth is revealed, the story also ends slowly, a classical sadness.
There's nothing to say about the script, it's very good, and I personally prefer this theme, which is even more divided. Although all the suspense movies are tricky, and the cowardly dad who has been reluctant to admit that his sister is still sick has fooled himself and the audience, but why not do it.
The director's technique is similar to "Fight Club" and "Beautiful Mind", and the illusion is very real. There are three people on the camera, but after the mystery is revealed, recalling the dialogue and characters in the scene at that time clearly showed the truth. It's a person, everything is reasonable and there are no flaws. In addition, ancient furniture, deep corridors, ethereal rooms, bloody floors, fast and sudden music, occasional spooky scenes, half-slow horror points, obvious Kubrick-style, like Great "The Shining". Moreover, compared to other wet horror movies that come with a scary point every few minutes, the very dry "Qiang" is still slightly higher. There are not many horror scenes but the quality is good, and it is not procrastinating. In the plot, the two important points of explanation are the death of the younger sister and the arrival of the stepmother. The timing is very good. It is when the audience slowly discovers some details, to doubts, to serious doubts, the answer is revealed. Especially the scene where the stepmother appeared at the end, and the scene where the sister looked at each other, the director used a 360° lens to state everything, which is more powerful than any language.
Compared with "Donnie Darko", I prefer this kind of film with a closed plot. There is a complete explanation at the end, and I won't feel too tired after watching it.
I suddenly remembered "Old Boy", I want to write about it, next time.
