This is a film that cares very much about reason. People's hearts are changed in all kinds of things, and they are treacherous, but the daily performance is nothing more than reason. This film restricts the plot to logic, but hides all the thrilling deep under the calm face. This kind of film is naturally not to please the audience. It has to have no scenes and no plot, so that after a few years I have forgotten everything. I only remember the atmosphere, even the heroine.
It should be noted that the real protagonist is the deputy Everett. It is Virgil who is publicly exposed and dealing with a group of squires. Everett knows the sense of measure and trusts Virgil unconditionally, so he will always stand behind Virgil. Although the opening monologue has hinted at the protagonist's perspective, Virgilio's figure is always forgotten. The correct way to open this film should actually focus on Everett's psychology, where you can see the beautiful glory of human nature, trust, firmness, understanding, tolerance, self-discipline, justice, and so on. Of course, maybe the director did it deliberately. As time went by, we gradually turned our attention to him. It wasn't until the last shock that we realized it, and looked at the West Wind Thin Horse, with aftertaste.
Interestingly, Everett, who seems introverted, considers himself a free Gunman, while Virgil, who exudes a cowboy flavor, is willing to be bound by the law. In addition, Virgil thinks Allie is very beautiful. I can hardly agree with her. With her coy and contrived posture, and her piano art, such a role is obviously not meant to please the audience. When seeing the scene in Xiaohe, it is probably unreasonable for modern people, or it should be said, modern audience. When many movies are full of simple and rude behavioral motives, modern audiences consciously abandon realistic considerations when watching movies and enter a game world. I have to say that the director really did a great job. The straightforward dialogue in the hotel made us realize that this is a real wild world, not a romantic novel with imaginary sentiments. Real human nature must be understood in context. As a woman, adopting the most suitable strategy for survival is not only understandable, it is simply awe-inspiring. Of course, you can accuse her of lack of morality, then the morality in your heart is nothing more than a peacekeeping dogma. The real morality is to survive first, and then to survive in dignity. It is precisely the difficulty of living in the wild that cherishes the present dignity. Virgil understands, Everett understands, and the British Empire understands this truth.
