The film tells the story of a skinny Rudy who, through unremitting efforts, got into his dream Notre Dame football team, and finally turned from the bench to the main draft.
The protagonist Rudy grew up in an ordinary family and was the youngest of the brothers. All the men in the family, including my father, are extremely fanatical about football games. They are loyal fans of the University of Notre Dame, and they are always on TV. Rudy was no exception, but when he announced to his family that he wanted to play at Notre Dame, the whole family didn't take it seriously.
On the eve of graduating high school, Rudy, who wanted to go to Notre Dame University, was unable to achieve his ideal due to poor grades. After graduating, he, like his brother Frank, went to work in the steel mill where the family worked. On his 22nd birthday, Rudy was deeply moved by a friend who gave him a jacket emblazoned with Notre Dame and encouraged him to realize his dream.
However, the accidental death of his friend in the steel factory hit Rudy hard. For the sake of his friend and his own dreams, he left his girlfriend who was already talking about marriage and resolutely set foot on the train to Notre Dame University.
With the help of a priest, Rudy used his savings to attend a College of the Holy Cross near Notre Dame, and hopes to transfer to Notre Dame with honors. At the same time, he found a handyman job with the Notre Dame football team at all costs. With no money for lodging, Rudy sneaked into the utility room with the help of a black man who hired him.
In order to enter the University of Notre Dame, Rudy studied and exercised very hard. After the first academic year, except for one A, he received all Bs, but such grades were not enough for him to enter his ideal university until the fourth year. At a time of near desperation, he received a notification from Notre Dame. Rudy comes home excitedly to announce the good news, his father is proud of him, and his former girlfriend has become his brother's fiancee.
Entering the university does not mean joining the school team, but Rudy, with his tenacious fighting spirit, was selected by the coach into the school team's backup camp, but he has never had the opportunity to play. Three years later, when Rudy has decided to quit the team, the black man who helped him once again encouraged him to return to the team and let him not disappoint his efforts.
With the support of his teammates, Rudy finally came off the bench at a crucial moment of an important game to help the team win the game, and the parents and family members who showed up were also excited.
Since then, the Notre Dame team has been lifted on the spot when no one has played. Later, Rudy graduated from the University of Notre Dame, and his five younger brothers also went to college and graduated successfully.
