I still remember how I felt when I watched Ice Age 1 (2002). The background setting of Ice Age, the portrayal of the three iconic protagonists, the overall relaxed and humorous style, and the small bridge section of the squirrel and nut skewers field all laid the tone for the subsequent filming of the series. This film and several other excellent animated films of the same period also gave me an understanding of excellent animated films: novel, interesting, and consistent.
Let me talk about the fun first. Looking at this series as a whole, the most interesting point is that each part is always looking for nuts, and by the way some big news squirrels have been produced. It is so popular that it has become the icon of a series of movies. There are many scenes of Squirrel in this movie, and a narration is added to explain its intentions (the narration is a dead spot...). Interesting routines are repeated more often (small changes lead to catastrophes), and after the time of the interesting clips becomes longer, the interesting becomes no longer interesting. The form of the ending egg has also become like a cat and mouse spoof style.
Let's talk about novelty. Divide -> Adventure -> Crisis/Resolve Divide -> Dzogchen ending. It is not to despise this kind of routine, after all, this formula can be summarized "most movies" with a little change and wording. But it’s not right to be “not new”. Counting the fresh content in the film, the squirrel/space content belongs to the branch story, and the influence on the main line is indirect. In the main line, the only fresh content other than youth growth/parental responsibilities/love is "topia", but Princess Mary Su and the cute alpaca are just funny characters and have no other effect. And the real new role (what is that little handsome mammoth called...) played his "standard part", "it should be" = "uninteresting". (Actually, I admit that I can’t see through "American teen style"..awkward..)
At the beginning, I said that the "aura" of the Ice Age series has actually disappeared at 3 o'clock, and the shooting of 4 has disappointed many people. However, after reading 5, I can’t help but look forward to whether we will release Part 6, because Part 5 has already set a sufficiently low starting line. If it is low, there is no need to comment. Speaking of this, should the Blue Sky Studio, which was not inferior to Disney & Pixar in my mind, reflect on it?
To pay tribute to these early animated movies that gave me infinite memories:
Blue Sky Studio, take a look at the good movies you have made, and reflect on it. No matter how big the reputation of Ice Age is, I can’t help Huo Huo (cross-industry example: Hero Pen)...
