Logic is rare, but cannot uncover the mystery of the human alone, so is truth. Sherlock Holmes finally understands the significance of the white lie, which is not easy for a genius like him. He ended up doing two things to show his repentance: one was to write a letter to the Japanese to lie to him in good faith; the other was to start mourning the dead. However, there are two flaws in the movie: one, Sherlock Holmes should have found out that it was not a bee but a wasp sting the first time he saw Roger's stung body, rather than finding out after some investigation; two (I think also The biggest loophole), Sherlock Holmes has been in this village for more than 30 years until he finally began to forget things and re-explored before he began to take it seriously (repentance) from the bottom of his heart. Could it be that he did this because he experienced spiritual cleansing for the second time? Makes sense too.
