The big winner of this year's Cannes Film Festival is "control," a musical biopic about the short and extraordinary life of the
band Joy Division frontman Lan curtis. The title of the film
"control" comes from a song "she's lost control" written by Lan curtis.

In fact, there is not much to say about the content of this movie, the plot is very simple,
it is the story of a musician. I can only say how I feel after watching it. The reason why I want to watch it is because
this story allows us to see the superstars who shine in the eyes of Xiri, their
lives are the same as us except on the stage, they also have diseases, fears, stress ,
escape... and so on some vulnerable side of human nature.
I think it will resonate a lot with people who have ever wished they were a rock star or were looking to be a rock star.

A real band, Joy Division was one of
the most influential British post-punk bands of the 1970s. In the autumn of 1976, in Manchester, England,
three professional musicians decided to form a band, and they spent the autumn searching for a suitable
violinist. They met Ian Curtis at a Sex Pistols concert.
Later they named themselves "Warsaw" (Warsaw).
However, they fell apart after only recording a five-song demo. But Ian Curtis and Steve Brotherdale
stayed and soon found a new drummer: Steve Morris, thus forming the
official team of Joy Division. In December 1977, they decided to record 4 new songs,
This is the later "An Ideal For Living" At that time they still used Warsaw as the team name,
it turned out that this name conflicted with others, so in January 1978, it officially changed its name to
"Joy Division" and on January 28th. There was an
official show at the Pip Bar in Manchester . The band's manager was also replaced by Rob Gretton.
This is the real information I found about Joy Division.

The film starts with the description of Lan curtis' illness and emotions. At the beginning of the film, Lan curtis said, "What is the meaning of existence?" He has always wanted to have his own life. Lan curtis, who was originally melancholy, lost his confidence in life after learning that he had epilepsy, and made him more vulnerable. Whether it was emotion or music, he felt out of control. Many times I can feel that the most vulnerable side of a person is when you are sick. No matter how strong or strong you are, when you are sick, at that moment, you will be extremely lonely and helpless.

Lan curtis's melancholy sometimes makes me think of kurt cobain, the lead singer of my favorite band Nirvana. God has endowed them with incomparable talent, but also gave them a lot of pain. Kurt cobain and Lan curtis also chose to let themselves die , are they the kind of people who would rather die if they can't live proudly? Or is it because they are really lonely? Some people say that Kurt Cobain felt so sad and lonely that he had to use hallucinations and anesthesia as an escape, and others said that he finally chose to use a bullet to understand because of the torment of illness. . . In the movie, Lan curtis gave me more information due to his illness, especially in that episode. After he had epileptic seizures at home, he didn't know how long he had been lying down. After he woke up, he got up and washed his face in the sink. showed pain.

I'll never be able to understand what Lan curtis and kurt cobain do from their point of view, but at least I think they're kind. When they can't control their own life, they will make their own choices, they will not compromise, they cannot settle, they are brave, they are free, they choose loneliness and enjoy loneliness, maybe there is no pure land for them in this world , although short, but eternal. . . Their souls are always free. . .

This is eternity, the self-esteem shattered by love, once pure, was turned around, the cloud shrouded me, captured every step, deep in my memory, was the love of the past. . .

Control quotes

  • Ian Curtis: I don't want to be in the band anymore. Unknown Pleasures was it. I was happy. I never meant for it to grow like this. When I'm up there, singing they don't understand how much I give and how it affects me. Now they want more. They expect me to give more. And I don't know if I can. It's like it's not happening to me, but... someone pretending to be me, someone dressed in my skin. Now we're going to America. I have no control anymore. I don't know what to do.

  • Ian Curtis: I struggle between what I know is right in my own mind, and some warped truthfulness as seen through other people's eyes who have no heart, and can't see the difference anyway.
