The two-star rating doesn't mean that the film is bad, but the three-star rating is still a bit unbearable.
The idea of this film is still good, and many aspects are involved. A small city, a miniature world. It is about the future of mankind, the plot of the end times, and the innuendo of the real society.
A small society is basically complete. The greedy and selfish mayor represents the ruling class; the kind black woman in the greenhouse can be said to represent the farmers; the male protagonist who can represent an engineer or a scientist is his father; the choir reflects religious complex; as for the two protagonists, It should be regarded as a reformer who has practiced and achieved success... If you look closely, everyone can find a certain social position.
One of the more interesting plots in the film is the distribution of work. It is difficult to tell the fairness and injustice of society. It is both ridiculous and cruel. It is difficult to imagine the heroine being a plumber.
I always feel that the beginning is better than the end. Seeing that it is a treasure hunt routine, it feels nondescript, although the sunrise is beautiful. There are indeed some flaws in the movie, and the rhythm is also a bit inappropriate. Generally speaking, it can still be watched, but don't expect too much.

PS: The heroine is very good, I like it

City of Ember quotes

  • Loris Harrow: [narrating] On the day the world ended, the fate of mankind was carried in a small metal box. In a secret location, architects, scientists and engineers met and concluded that there was only one hope for our future: to build an underground city designed to keep its citizens protected for generations to come. The box was entrusted to the first mayor, who was to pass it on to her successor. As the years counted down, the box passed from mayor to mayor. None knew what secrets it held, only that it would open when it was needed most. But fate ran another course, and the chain was broken. The box was tucked away and forgotten, and as the city grew old and began to crumble, the box quietly clicked open.

  • Loris Harrow: [narrating] Lina and Doon tied their hope to a rock and tossed it down toward the city. The rock could've ended up on a roof. Or kicked into a gutter. But fate ran another course. And the message found its way. Now the path was clear for all. All of us who kept the flame of Ember burning, through the darkness, so that we could live again on the earth, in the air and the light.
