phantom pure

When I heard someone say "Breaking the Waves", I easily remembered Beth's phantom and pure eyes looking at the camera.
This film is regarded as the most classic love movie. In order to make her husband feel alive again, Beth told him what it was like to have sex with someone else. People saw her as a prostitute, a sinner who turned away from God. And she just loves him with all her heart and wants him to live. In fact, she is just very simple and kind, and she believes in God. The moment her body was pushed into the sea, the church bell rang, occupying the entire sound painting, as if it were a bell tolling from heaven.
What is the color of love? red? White? It's transparent here, no blemishes can be seen. Just like Von Trier's film concept, the purest film, abandoning fancy technology. Doesn't really go along with Dogma 95's Ten Commandments statement, but Von Trier's clean shots always strike me. The women he chose were so strange, Emily, Bjork, not beautiful but so touching, pale and fair in northern Europe, and desperate love.
