It's a very old movie. I guessed from the mobile phone in the protagonist's hand that it was produced around 1997. When I saw the end of the film, hehe, it's not bad at all.
Have you ever thought that, just a little bit, your life might be different? There is no regret medicine in real life, but you can watch this movie and tell you two possibilities.
Helen (Gwyneth Paltrow), recently fired and depressed, is anxious to rush home to her live-in boyfriend, Gerry, an unknown writer. James bumps into Helen in the elevator and helps her pick up the earrings that have fallen on the floor.
In this way, the story unfolds in parallel with two possibilities. One of Helen catches the subway and smashes her boyfriend and his old girlfriend Lydia on the bed; the other, Helen misses the subway and arrives home after the third person leaves.
So one helen was heartbroken and the other kept in the dark.
One resolutely left to change his image to clean up his mood, and started his own business under the guidance of James.
One had no way to find a job, so he worked part-time in a bar with a braid, and was exhausted both physically and mentally.
When helen with short blond hair cheered James up for rowing in the lake happily, helen with long hair walked across the bridge and poured out her suspicions about her boyfriend's clues to her close friend, she was not happy.
When the happy Helen was partying with new friends at the bar, Gerry and Lydia quarreled and walked through the window. He looked tired, and when he heard the laughter inside, he couldn't help but stepped forward to find Helen; and Helen, the waitress, Just found out that he was pregnant and wanted to call Gerry, who was going to collect materials in other places, but the man had a private meeting with Lydia over there and hurriedly hung up.
The two helens were admitted to the hospital due to an accident at the same time, and both had miscarriages, the difference being that the father of one child was Jame. James, who was waiting hard, finally waited until Helen woke up from the coma; in another ward, the sobered Helen left the hospital alone, never looking back at his old boyfriend again. She takes the elevator, she loses her earring, ah, she bumps into another Jame. The story stops there.

The structure is not exquisite, and the narrative technique has a lot of room for improvement, at least it can use picture-in-picture. Gwyneth is getting old so fast. After he was not yet sealed, he looks like an old woman now, in his early forties, right? The Hong Kong version of the translated name is very good, "Fate on Both Sides", just a few seconds away, life is very different. However, at the end of the movie, it came back again.

Sliding Doors quotes

  • Helen: So who are you on the rebound from?

James: A girl called Pamela. My whole life pivots around Pam and I breaking up.

    Helen: When was that?

James: 1973, we were eight. I bloody loved that woman! No warning just up, gone, left me for someone else.

    Helen: Who?

James: Gary Glitter! Gary Glitter for cryin' out loud! I mean all my friends were being left for Donny Osmond or David Cassidy, I could have come to terms with that given time, but Gary oooooh she wanted to touch him there yeeaah...

  • James: Everything happens for the best. You'll never know if you don't try.
