Finally finished watching the revenge trilogy. It wasn't intentional, but it happened to be that I watched all three of them backwards. Fortunately, it is in this order. If you look at it directly, I am afraid you will be disappointed.
Of the three, I still like "Old Boy" the most.
But now that you've read them all, let's put them together and talk about it.
The first thing I watched was "Kind Gold". To be honest, a woman's revenge is still not that bloody, and there are violent scenes, but it is still much weaker than the first two films, but that was the first time I contacted director Park Chan-wook. I was still unfamiliar with his shooting techniques and style, and at that time, there were not many dark and depressing films involved, so it was still very shocking to watch it at the time.
The plot of the film is still compact, and the rhythm is much faster than "I Want Revenge", but it is ruined by the clichéd plot, and even the final collective revenge is like a farce. The reasons for revenge are not new, and the whole story that unfolds there is not very interesting.
So only for Samsung.
The second I watched was "Old Boy". The shock it gave me was that I couldn't calm down for a long time. A revenge can be carefully planned for 15 years, how terrifying.
Of course, the incest plot in it was also a very important reason for shocking me. After knowing that they were father and daughter, I deliberately went back and re-watched the scene of them in the hotel xxoo. They didn't know anything at that time, and I as the audience didn't know anything at that time, but now I know, but I don't feel guilty watching it.
The ending of the film is ambiguous, and it is the only open ending among the three films. Perhaps the revenge came too violently, and even the screenwriter and director did not want to use a decisive ending to tie the audience's thoughts.
The process of the hero and heroine getting to know each other and falling in love has become the biggest drawback of this film. It is too unrealistic to use simple mind control as the pretext for their love. It may be that the screenwriter can't think of a better way to make the father and daughter in a short time. fall in love with each other.
There are many violent and bloody scenes in "Old Boy", but he is actually overcoming the audience's psychological defense line, which is completely different from the way "I Want Vengeance" completely breaks through from the visual level.
Overall, I personally think "Old Boy" is the best work in the trilogy, giving it four stars.
The last "I Want Revenge" that I watched seemed to have the most violent and bloody scenes, so much that it was a bit nauseating, and the bloody scenes in some scenes were actually superfluous. But the most valuable thing about this film is his grasp of the details. The details in many places in the film enrich the theme of the whole film.
One is at the beginning of the film. The sick sister is struggling on the ground and shouting for the male protagonist to help. However, because the male protagonist is deaf and mute, he can't hear her sister's cry, so he keeps his back to her sister and looks relaxed. Doing my own thing, this little detail is exactly the same as the girl's death later, maybe the film is paving the way from the beginning.
There is also Song Kanghao, who was questioned by the police in the car after seeing his daughter's body. At this time, he had been sitting in the car. When the camera came over, he could only see the policeman and Song's legs. At this time, he was sitting in the car. In the dark, only hearing his voice but not seeing anyone, means that he is about to go to the dark and start his road of revenge.
The only flaw of the film is the slow rhythm, but fortunately, the plot is wonderful, and the multiple revenge lines slightly make up for the lack of rhythm, giving the overall three and a half stars.
Also, five stars for this lens.
