It turns out that the angel in Berlin is a middle-aged man with pigtails~

I was fumbling around with some humble pirated disc dealer, and I saw a small stack of discs with extremely poor covers next to a pile of bad movies and the latest blockbuster of the gun version. The VI is so bad that I can't bear it. One more look. The covers of those discs are photocopied, and the posters are printed in very low resolution on the pale printer paper, which is the best of shoddy production. I said to the first line: "Look at these discs..." The first line responded quickly and loudly. Before I finished speaking, he shouted: "Oh my God, this pirated copy is too bad." Then he went to touch it. Looking for her "Rise of the Great Powers" on the side.

The frontline bought a disc for more than 60 yuan, and bargained with the boss. The boss refused to be cheap, so he said to give her a movie disc. The first line asked me to choose, and I muttered: "There aren't any good movies here..." The boss didn't say anything. I found the "Shinjuku Incident" that Mushroom has always wanted to watch, "This is it." Who knows what the boss said: "The gun version."

I got impatient and asked the boss: "Do you have a slightly classic movie? ?" The
boss raised his head and pointed to the small disc "The Best of Shoddy" and said, these are classic old movies, homemade. The picture quality is good.
Only then did I go back and re-examine the real masterpieces that I had overlooked... As a result, I found this "Berlin Under the Sky" that I had been looking for for a long time. This has to be said to be an irony. Presumably the boss is also a knowledgeable person, or an avid old movie copying lover, but he is definitely not a rude literary youth. Young literary and artistic people will definitely make these discs beautiful.

This was the day before yesterday. I didn't have time to watch the disc until this afternoon. I pulled it out and saw the word "Berlin" written slantingly with a marker pen on the white DVD, and gave a wry smile. Although the sparrow is ugly, it has all the internal organs. This pirated disc also has a back cover, which is usually used for some bad illustrations and topsy-turvy story introductions. I was surprised by the short, sharp reviews on the back of this homemade disc. After reading two or three lines, I knew that it was definitely not from the hands of ordinary people, and I immediately admired it. Since I don't have the habit of reading movie reviews before watching movies, I will read them later.

"If your upper eyelids start to get a little heavy within ten minutes of the opening, then it's better to leave the screen and simply fulfill your sleepiness." This is one of the paragraphs of the film review. I am proud to say: I lasted for an hour before going to bed. It's just that I slept very uncomfortable that night, and I was very annoyed when a phone interrupted me.

I went to bed because I was really sleepy, not because the movie itself was boring. Before I slept, I gave this movie five stars. After I woke up and watched the second half, I only gave it four stars. Indeed, the second half is too dull and tedious, and the ending feels like a CCTV-style political preaching. The story of the film is very old-fashioned: two angels observe West Berlin, and one of the human angels falls in love with a circus girl, and finally abandons God and goes to earth to find love. Does this story sound pretty vulgar? I'm glad I didn't read the synopsis before watching it, otherwise I would have dismissed it as a third-rate movie.

But the director did not take the love story of the angel and the girl as the main line, but made it very obscure and restrained. Love stories are just a little embellishment. The film critic said: "After more than ten years, when the Americans remade the film, the angel moved to the sky above Hollywood, and the love story between Nicolas Cage and the hospital nurse Menie Ryan became the only theme of the film. , the direct intention is more like the angelic version of "Human Ghosts", which is hypocritical and contrived, which is really a kind of blasphemy to this film." I have not seen this "hypocritical and contrived" movie (City of Angels) , but this is the first time I've seen an introduction criticizing another movie on the back of a DVD.

Perhaps it is an inherent characteristic of Germans. They are not as direct as Americans. They always like to express multiple themes in a covert way, leaving the audience confused. What is the director trying to express? Maybe it is the perception of time, maybe it is the impact of the culture divided by the Berlin Wall on the society at that time, people are indifferent and don't know what it is, maybe... Maybe the director's head is also a mess. It is said that the brains of geniuses are chaotic. Life is like a dream. The principle of the dream is that the brain can distinguish a large number of pictures that occur simultaneously in the head, and then parse it into a coherent story, so the dream will become upside down, and the bull's head is wrong. Maybe the film itself is a dream? This reminds me of an Italian movie called "Eight and One Half".

There are many good German movies, such as "The Tin Drum", "Lola Run", "Metropolis", such as "Sissi"... Over time, I felt that German is the most beautiful language in the world. This is especially true of Under the Berlin Sky. Anyone who likes Wong Kar Wai knows that his usual technique is monologue. Wenders (the director of "Berlin") is better than him, almost two-thirds of the language is monologue. Men's, women's, children's. Angels shuttled through the library and heard people's inner voices, intertwined with each other, which was very moving. "When you're alone, do you know what you're thinking? I tried it, and if I ask myself what I'm thinking, I feel overwhelmed and don't have any thoughts. The thoughts in people's minds disappear. When you subconsciously turn it into language or words, it has left you far behind." This is the biggest charm of this film. Human thinking, great, small, profound, insignificant... Only the angels hear behind you, a voice that you can't even hear yourself. This is the most poetry-like film I've ever seen, not only because of the beautiful lines, but also because of the brilliance of human thinking. In fact, everyone is an artist, a thinker, a poet.

This is also why the library is the place where the angels appear the most. There are more sublime voices out there. Angels put their hands on people's shoulders and listen with enjoyment. Angel said: "We watched Berlin until the river found its bed for the first time, but we were not overjoyed. Until the first time we saw an upright walking animal, it ran and yelled 'ah' or ' Oh', we finally got it, that was the first time we laughed." Of course, after watching the movie, I understood that the angel in Berlin was a middle-aged man in a black woolen coat and a cashmere scarf with pigtails , and often haunts the library.

When a child was a child, he always asked, why am I just me and not you? Where does one's life begin? Where does the universe end? Is life under the sun just a dream?

A movie with a lot to dig into. Judging from the few lines at the end of the film, is it a tribute to the senior master? Are they angels scattered around the world? I saw the film's tribute to Berlin. 4.5 stars.

Wings of Desire quotes

  • Marion: It must finally become serious. I've often been alone, but I've never lived alone. When I was with someone I was often happy. But the same time, it all seemed a coincidence. These people were my parents. But it could have been others. Why was this brown-eyed boy my brother and not the green-eyed boy on the opposite platform? The taxi driver's daughter was my friend. But I might as well have put my arm round a horse's neck. I was with a man in love and I might as well have left him there and gone off with the stranger I met in the street. Look at me, or don't. Give me your hand, or don't. No. Don't give me the hand, and look away. I think tonight is the new moon. No night more peaceful. No bloodshed in all the city. I've never played with anyone and yet I've never opened my eyes and thought: Now it's serious. At last it's becoming serious. So I've grown older. Was I the only one who wasn't serious? Is it our times that are not serious? I was never lonely neither when I was alone, nor with others. But I would have liked to be alone at last. Loneliness means I'm finally whole. Now I can say it as tonight, I'm at last alone. I must put an end to coincidence. The new moon of decision. I don't know if there's destiny but there's a decision. Decide! We are now the times. Not only the whole town - the whole world is taking part in our decision. We two are now more than us two. We incarnate something. We're representing the people now. And the whole place is full of those who are dreaming the same dream. We are deciding everyone's game. I am ready. Now it's your turn. You hold the game in your hand. Now or never. You need me. You will need me. There's no greater story than ours, that of man and woman. It will be a story of giants... invisible... transposable... a story of new ancestors. Look. My eyes. They are the picture of necessity, of the future of everyone in the place. Last night I dreamt of a stranger... of my man. Only with him could I be alone, open up to him, wholly open, wholly for him. Welcome him wholly into me. Surround him with the labyrinth of shared happiness. I know... it's you.

  • Peter Falk: [inner voice] Yellow star means death. Why did they pick yellow? Sunflowers. Van Gogh killed himself. This drawing stinks. So what? No one sees it. Someday you'll make a good drawing. I hope. I hope. I hope.
