Does every dignity need to be respected from the heart?

When can we applaud when, when we confront who, when we look directly at what happens? What responsibility should each person take, and to whom? Are you responsible for yourself? Are you responsible for those you love? Are you accountable to those who love you? Responsible for life? Should we respect every dignity from the heart, even if it sometimes contradicts our existing ideology and values? Admit that freedom? Do you really want to respect and acknowledge it? Do you really want to applaud? Or become emptiness, saying that everything in the world may or may not be worthy of respect? At least, perhaps, real survival is something to applaud. Hunger quotes

  • Father Dominic Moran: I want to know whether your intent is just purely to commit suicide here.

Bobby Sands: You want me to argue about the morality of what I'm about to do and whether it's really suicide or not? For one, you're calling it suicide. I call it murder. And that's just another wee difference between us two. We're both Catholic men, both Republicans. But while you were poaching salmon in beautiful Kilrea, we were being burnt out of our house in Rathcoole. Similar in many ways, Dom, but life and experiences focused our beliefs differently. You understand me?

  • Bobby Sands: I'm clear of the reasons Dom. I'm clear of all the repercussions. I will act and I will not stand by and do nothing.
