The plot is beautiful, but it's the characters that really stand out. Sloan is just a female Cao Cao, with the air of "taking advantage of a person's head". There are so many strong women who are Facebook-styled, and even the movie uses such a vulgar comment as "she is only one dick away from a man". However, the film added a lot of human touch to Sloan's image, allowing this conscientious political lobbyist to complete a very shocking character image. The last time I saw such an astonishing figure that I knew did not exist was undoubtedly the white-haired witch written by Liang Yusheng.
In fact, after seeing Sloan in prison, I was surprised that this was actually a knight image. In a Western context, such organized self-sacrifice is rare indeed. This also shows that although the heroine is an expressionless killer on the surface, she is a selfless person at heart. After being imprisoned, a lawyer came to visit her and asked why she planned it without the entire team. The "Five Years Minimal" Sloan said echoed what the lawyer said before, when Sloan finally lost his temper at the hearing. Remaining silent, the lawyer said to her when arguing with her in the elevator, "You have to go in for at least five years. Is it really worth it to be so angry?". Sloan not only felt that it was worth it, but also fought alone without dragging down his teammates. The implication was "at least five years in prison, why put teammates in danger?"
In the tight rhythm of the film, the director also arranged many dark strokes to reflect the soft side of the characters. For example, in the story of the priest and the nun, at the morning meeting, Sloan, the leader, was able to patiently use the story to persuade and educate his rookie subordinates who made mistakes twice (although he might just want to tell a dirty joke). No wonder her subordinates jumped ship with her. But the most touching thing is when the strongman shows his vulnerable side. The film constantly exaggerates Sloan's loneliness, his subordinates do not understand, the employer justly and sternly accuses, and finally the black woman almost died due to her own conspiracy error. When rushing to the airport to face the accusations of the black woman, Jessica's performance was textbook-level, with the sadness, guilt and apology and narcissism that could not be shown on her face, twisted in a black flat tie studded dress Complicated mood, showing a pure and stubborn vulnerability. Although she is confident that "I can only be responsible for the goals I was hired for, and I cannot and need not be responsible for other people's feelings", how can people be ruthless? At least Sloan wasn't ruthless, but she tried desperately to hide her vulnerability. Even on the night of quarreling with ducks, she would use "this is probably the easiest money you earn" to cover up her loneliness. The result can only be exchanged for others to stay away: "If this is your request, I have to do it."
Lonely Sloan was finally unable to succeed in plan A, and the only time he lost control of his emotions that night when he could only fight back by choosing self-sacrifice, he could only swallow a few pills in the end. In fact, the result is also satisfactory. Continuing in this business can only be a slow suicide. It is better to use your career to perish with the consortium. When Sloan was finally released, the expressionless stare was the perfect portrait of the man. In the film, it is not without the use of facial characters to shape the plot. For example, the personnel of the two companies are white, old men, suits and ties on one side, and women, tall and thin young people, plaid shirts, and open offices on the other. But Sloan's final gaze, one that has stripped away all gender, is the perfect illustration of equality.
