The most beautiful rainy day is the eaves that hide from the rain with you

It rained heavily this evening and reminded me of this still. This is a scene at the end of the film "The Day Will End" based on the novel of Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro. The hero and heroine meet again after many years, but they are about to part again. And this is gone, the world is different, and this life may not meet again.

The two used to be work buddies, that's all. Other than that, there is no other connection between the two. In the many years of working together, the shrewd and capable two people have the same mind and cooperate tacitly. In the daily trivialities, the heroine's feelings gradually grow, eagerly looking forward to a possible future. However, the male protagonist has always restrained his heart and maintained a calm daily life for the sake of his career as a housekeeper.

The heroine then married someone else and went far away, but the choice was not what she loved after all. When we meet again after 20 years, the world has changed. The female protagonist has long been divorced and lived alone, and the male protagonist is still single.

However, the timing was not right, and the two faced parting again. If it was said that they were unwilling to part with each other last time, this time is destined to regret for life.

Seeing this scene of farewell on the platform in the rain, my eyes were also wet. Xi Murong said a similar scene in a poem,

Platform in heavy rain

Can't find a flower to send

Tomorrow, another world...

The two are not lovers, but they have already surpassed ordinary friends and are more like family. We will meet similar people in our lifetime. We meet for a short time, but our hearts are connected, which is better than others. However, when we meet, no one can predict the future.

How many relationships have been lost to deep love. If you foresee the doomed separation, are you still willing to experience the original encounter?

The Remains of the Day quotes

  • Miss Kenton: [about a new housemaid] You don't like having pretty girls on the staff, I've noticed.

    [teasing]

Miss Kenton: Might it be that our Mr Stevens fears distraction? Can it be that our Mr Stevens is flesh and blood after all and doesn't trust himself?

Stevens: [with the faintest trace of a smile] You know what I'm doing, Miss Kenton? I'm placing my thoughts elsewhere as you chatter away.

Miss Kenton: ...then why is that guilty smile still on your face?

Stevens: Oh it's not a guilty smile. I'm simply amused by the sheer nonsense you sometimes talk.

Miss Kenton: It *is* a guilty smile. You can hardly bear to look at her. That's why you didn't want to take her on, she's too pretty.

Stevens: Well, you must be right Miss Kenton, you always are.

  • Miss Kenton: I don't know what my future is. Ever since Katherine, my daughter, got married last year, my life has been empty. The years stretch before me and if only I knew how to fill them. But, I would like to be useful again.
