The film starts with the air and ends with the ocean.
This is actually the second time I watch it. It felt more resonating as I didn't have to worry about the plot and could focus on a larger picture. With the experience of the intimate time I spent with this film, I feel it encompasses lost, decadence, missing and love…a city and more importantly– life itself. Using the character Marcello as a pinpoint to peek the absurdity of upper class bourgeois also kept a thin line with its connection to existential meaning while addressing all of the aspects mentioned above— La Dolce Vita is really a masterpiece.
Fellini is no doubt a master in tackling these meticulous yet grandeur topics as some other films dealt with more or less similar themes such as Cosmopolis by David Cronenberg and Somewhere by Sofia Coppola as well as The Great Beauty by Paolo Sorrentino, in my opinion— would be so pale/vain in comparison with La Dolce Vita.
I would love to rewatch it over and over.
