We never know how high we are

We never know how high we are
till we are called to rise.
And then,
if we are true to plan,
our statures touch the skies.
The heroism we recite would be a daily thing,
did not ourselves the cubits warp,
for fear to be a king.

--Emily Dickinson

We never know how tall we are
until we are called to our feet
If we stick to our plan, our lengths
can touch the sky
and our heroic deeds will become commonplace,
it's not we who bend Do
n't dare to dominate if you have a measure

-- Emily Dickinson
