The writing method of three-act plays has been around since its invention, and mastering the rules will allow you to easily grasp the structure of the whole story. The protagonist, the opponent, the core question, the theme, the interfering event, the plot point 1, the plot point 2, the ending, if you can answer these clearly, the whole story is basically clear.
The film "White Ribbon" in 2009 was highly recommended by a friend. I watched it in 2012, and I didn't have much impression at that time. I prefer Haneke's "Piano Teacher". It wasn't until the end of last year, when I accidentally rewatched The White Ribbon, that I truly understood its uniqueness and greatness. Today, revisited it and later read the script and some comments. So I want to write some superficial opinions from the perspective of drama.
Protagonists: Mary, the Martin brothers and sisters
Opponents: Pastors and adults who maintain "order"

Core question: Can children get rid of the white ribbon?
Interference event: The doctor fell from the horse

Plot 2: The midwife's disabled son Cary was brutally hanged
Ending: Celebration, happy gathering, children singing carols
This film is more difficult to analyze because the teacher runs through the whole The narration of the film, the narration drives the plot. The story takes place in the year before World War I, begins in the summer and ends in the summer. After a rough calculation, there are 54 narrations in the whole film, all of which revolve around people or things in the village.
Except for the "police", "doctor", "Baron's family" and "Eva", almost no one left the village. The theme of the story is to explore the relationship between adults and children. The characters mainly include "a family composed of a doctor and a midwife (corresponding to daughter Ksenia and son Rudolph and disabled son Cary)" "Pastor's family (corresponding to daughter Mary and son Martin)" and Florian)", "The Housekeeper's Family (corresponding to the Prophet's Daughter and the Jealous Son)", "The Farmer's Family (corresponding to the Hateful Son Franz)", "The Baron's Family (Wife and Son)" and "Teacher and Love" baby". Further analysis will find that the story is interspersed in the above-mentioned families, just like braiding. The peace of the village was broken at the beginning, then the mystery gradually became bigger, and the incident became more outrageous. The evil in people's hearts was slowly revealed. In the end, the war made everything come to an end. Instead, everyone finally participated in the celebration together.
There are about 70 scenes in the whole film, and a careful study of the sequence of plot development is very helpful to understand the structure of the film. I will list a few: the doctor falls from the horse - the midwife and Mary Martin appear - the doctor's daughter and son cry at home - the horse dies, the baroness and her son appear - the priest scolds Mary and Martin - the police investigate the scene of the falling horse - the death of the farmer and the husband - Martin walks alone on the bridge and is tested by God and is discovered by the teacher - the farmer's son investigates the cause of his mother's death - the teacher and Eva know each other. . . . . .
In addition, the narrative of the story is very concise, the whole film has no soundtrack, but is always full of tension and some kind of mystery. In the end, many of the passages and dialogues in the film are wonderful. These are all subject to special analysis later.
