This is an outstanding movie. I don't say that just because it's a touching movie. It is also because in such a film, Jean Genet, as the director, brought his skills of directing a film to a whole new level. To put it more plainly, let Genet be the most powerful director in the world today, and no one can surpass him. Again, the director used all the means and techniques that a film should use. At least more than any director I've ever seen. Of course, as soon as you say more, people will say that more is not necessarily better. Of course this is the case, so I said a lot, and I said it on the premise of good use. This makes the entire film extremely informative, showing unprecedented richness.
This is a movie to watch at least on both sides. Not only because you can't get the whole plot the first time around, especially for non-French audiences. Also because it's a movie that you'll be more moved by the second time you watch it than the first time.
And don't forget, it's amazing to keep an eye on the director's cinematic skills.
