Youth

It is difficult to define whether this is an ethical film, a literary film or a feature film. According to traditional standards, this is not a good story with high climaxes and suspense: there are too many characters and too many stories, and it seems that everyone has a touch of water. This is undoubtedly a good movie - not so much a good movie, as it is an artistic portrait of life that is close to reality. Because of this, we are gradually enveloped by the tenderness of the film, reluctant to part in the "Simple Movement" at the end, and even if we forget all the details of the film, we can feel the aftertaste like a fragrance. We are no longer watching movies, but we are told about our own lives by movies: the teenage years who achieved success from disobedience, the friendships that were broken and continued due to competition for lovers, the marriages that were burnt down by reckless love, the marriages that depended on each other, Indifference and speechless to the point that a marriage can only be tasteful by relying on field warfare, and children who are hurt by their parents' marriage. Although the partner is still alive and dead, he finds his love for her in the twilight, but his life will not be reversed by remorse. There may be more, beliefs that don't need to be refuted, fame that has turned to ashes, decency that is harder to preserve with age. We think of our lives in every detail, and who can expect a life to be orchestrated? We have forgiven those weeds, just because every one grows from the bottom of my heart, happy to tears, pain to smile.

Contrary to the title, what really moves people is not youthfulness, but aging. The only constant in the whole film is the perspective softened by aging: the repeated appearance of the tranquil green shade under the Alps, the classical background music, the people sleeping peacefully underwater. Young and vigorous viewers are able to escape the sharpness of the young and get a glimpse of the vision of the old. The old conductor refused to perform for the Queen, and instead sat alone on the alpine pasture: raising his hand, the neck bells of the cattle and sheep rang like a movement; pressing the wrist, the cattle and sheep freeze like an idyllic landscape painting; Flying in the green shade behind. Only a prosperous old man can refuse the royal invitation, so as to truly embrace the picturesque nature (this scene can really be regarded as the most beautiful scene in the whole film). This kind of classical temperament, there is another place in the watch shop, we listen to the clock and chirping through the ears of the old conductor, it is clearly a movement.
How can old age be so merciful, giving us only endless peace. Along with aging comes a growing sense of powerlessness over the lives of your children and even your own. Children no longer pay attention to the old man's advice, and even confiding in the old man becomes ashamed by the growing isolation. We need to admit that the time has come to completely withdraw from the life of our children, to give up the right to dominate, to give up the right to advise, and slowly, to give up the right to know; Regressing as a baby, keeping our old memories, secrets and truths to our old friends, or to ourselves. After experiencing power, this feeling of powerlessness in passively giving up and accepting is worse than giving up career and fame. Aging robs them of their glories, and puts them in "a bygone era," where the most important thing in an old life is to pee a few times a day, a few drops at a time. The shame that comes with aging is secret and only shared with old friends who are also aging.
Accepting this sense of powerlessness is not easy. It's not so much that Mick committed suicide because of Brenda's broken contract, but rather that he couldn't accept the feeling of powerlessness and committed suicide. 80 years of life is too long, too long to jump out of the creative rut, too long to be unfamiliar with the operation chain of the film circle, too long to see the rise and popularity of TV dramas, and not even aware that Brenda's withdrawal will cause the movie to fail to start. . Brenda's visit relentlessly reveals the truth. Maybe Mick already knew it, but after the truth was laid bare before his eyes, he broke down. It wasn't just the movie that was aborted, it was his "last posthumous work", the only remaining sense of value in his life. He could not accept that he had been cast aside from the cause for which he had dedicated his life, that he was just a decaying old man, and that he did not have the peace of an old friend who turned nature into movement. The uninhibited artist whose life is all about emotions has died, and suicide is only the end of his form of life.

Marriage and feelings are private, no matter how many children you have, no matter how others guess and talk, the truth always exists only between the two. Young love can always be attributed simply: she has a good time in bed, we fell in love at first sight... and late love is always obscure. The old man who has lived through most of his life may have been confused by the definition of love, but he still remembers the flaming love for his wife when he was young, and it still shines brightly to this day. Maybe he has loved her more than one person in this life, but she is the only one who has been entangled in his long life. The old man confided his past to his delirious old wife Xu Xu, not to clarify her daughter's misunderstanding of him (which was also the truth for her), or even to confess her remorse to the old wife. At this moment, we have no intention of discussing Lunchang, the old man can't even remember any details of his first love, right and wrong and repentance have lost their meaning in the face of time. We just have tears in our eyes before this tender and cruel time.

It's nice to be young. Miss Universe's graceful body is breath-taking, and both young and old have an epiphany at the moment of the meaning of spring. When I was young, the future was within reach, and my spirit and stamina were abundant, making it suitable for running with all my strength. I have a lot of respect for Brenda. She sees and follows the trend of the industry with her almost straightforward courage. Isn't that what it means to be young? When I saw the cheering crowd disperse, the fat and out-of-date softball star was walking hard on crutches, it was not funny, but sad; while he practiced hard on the field, I could vaguely see the familiarity of the past , is this not young? Why not be respectful and moving?

Youth quotes

  • [last lines]

Fred Ballinger: [sitting in his wife's room] I waited till visiting hours to come and see you. They don't know, Melanie. The children don't know their parents ordeals. Sure, they know certain details, striking elements. And they know what they need to know to be on one side or the other. They don't know that I trembled the first time I ever saw you on stage. And that the orchestra behind my back was laughing at my falling in love. And my unexpected fragility. They don't know that you sold of your mother's jewellery in order to help me with my second piece, when everyone else was turning me down, calling me a presumptuous, inelegant musician. I think they don't know that you too, and you were right that you thought I was a presumptuous, inelegant musician at that time. And you cried so hard. Not because you sold you mother's jewellery, but because you sold your mother. They don't know that we were together, you and I, despite all the exhaustion, and the pain, and the hardship. Melanie, they must never know that you and I, despite everything, liked to think of ourselves as "A Simple Song."Look at me.

  • Miss Universe: I appreciate irony, but when it is drenched in poison, it is drained of its force and reveals something else...

    Jimmy Tree: [pregnant pause] What?

    Miss Universe: Frustration!
