sicko, a film with a conscience

Saw this film tonight and was very moved, it once again proved that Moore is a conscientious director, even though the director may be prosecuted for this film that brings justice to people. The despair brought to the people by an unfair system is more cruel than the disease itself. A very good film, worth spending 2 hours watching.
The Chinese people should be more aware of their own living conditions and the country's medical system. People in any country have the right to enjoy full medical services, and we should fight for this. The United States is not the only country with problems with its health care system. A few years ago, even before 2007, our health care system was no different from the United States, because the government handed the national health care to the market, but luckily Yes, our government is changing this misconception and gradually increasing its investment in medical security, but compared with countries such as Canada, France and the United Kingdom, we are still far behind, and even compared with Cuba, a socialist country. In comparison, our medical system is not fair enough. At one point we were no different from the United States. While sympathizing with the American people, we should think more about our own situation. As a socialist country, our medical system is not a "socialist" medical system like the United States imagined, and it is "egalitarian" Our medical system is actually less socialist.
The health care system should be a fair public good, not just a commodity for the rich. If this can't be done, then what's the point of giving more money from the state and taxing more? The United States has almost the most advanced medical equipment, medicines and most professional doctors in the world, but technological progress has not benefited the American people, so what is the use of making more "Emergency Room Stories"? Technology should ultimately serve the majority of the people. And technological progress should allow more medicines to drop in price, not produce more high-priced "advanced" medicines that are harder to pay.

Sicko quotes

  • Michael Moore: So there was actually one place on American soil that had free, universal healthcare.

[cut to aerial picture of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba]

Michael Moore: That's all I needed to know. I went down to Miami, Florida, Got myself a boat, and loaded up Bill, and Reggie, and John, and anyone else I could find who needed o see a doctor, and couldn't afford one. So many people showed up, I had to get a few extra boats. And I called up Donna Smith from Denver, who was now on 9 different medications, and asked her if she'd like to come along. I figured she'd like to get out of her daughter's basement for a while.

  • [Linda Peeno speaking before Congress]

Linda Peeno: My name is Linda Peeno. I am here primarily today to make a public confession: In the Spring of 1987, as a physician, I denied a man a necessary operation that would have saved his life, and thus caused his death. No person, and no group has held me accountable for this, because in fact, what I did was I saved a company a half a million dollars for this. And for the more, this particular act secured my reputation as a good medical director, and it insured my continued advancement in the health care field. I went from making a few hundred dollars a week as a medical reviewer, to an escalating six-figure income as a physician executive. In all my work, I had one primary duty, and that was to use my medical expertise for the financial benefit for the organization which I worked. And I was told repeatedly that I was not denying care, I was simply denying payment. I know how managed care maims and kills patients. So I am here to tell you about the dirty work of managed care. And I'm haunted by the thousands of pieces of paper in which I have written that deadly word - "denied".
