Since I have you, I can't stand the loneliness of living alone

Africa in the eyes of white people, showing documentaries of African scenery.

Karen is independent, excellent, and capable. She was kind to the black people in her land, took the lame child to heal the leg injury, read to the children in her land, read English, and even knelt down to the governor, begging for a piece of land for them to live in. These are brave, independent witnesses. The problem is that the film is still set in colonial Africa, the favors given by colonial whites, like false hypocrisy. Kindness is true, but perhaps more should be done, the colonial whites withdraw from Africa and give them a piece of land to live in.

It can be shown that Karen is really independent. Maybe it should be that when the fire burned the coffee beans that were finally harvested for three years, she prevented people from fighting the fire, because the fire was obviously irreversible. She bravely accepted this cruel reality, which is the true independence of her character.

Denys has promised to live with Karen and settle down. "Since I have you, I can't stand the loneliness of a person's life", this sentence is really beautiful, I am willing to try it for another person. Even if this is an adaptation of a true story, I feel that I have just made an important promise, and people will never see it again. There is a flight accident, which is too dramatic. Maybe life is really so dramatic, but it feels like a sudden turning point for a sad ending.

There are large sections in the middle of hunting together and lying under the stars together. It is really a beautiful African propaganda film. This is not an African perspective, but a perspective on the exotic beauty of Africa with a little propaganda and curiosity.

Karen said in her recollections that she was fascinated by Africa, but was a little unfamiliar with Denmark. To be honest, when I said this, there was no blockbuster African scenery in the middle, just some fragments of getting along with servants and tribal children. It is really impossible to draw the conclusion that Africa is obsessed.

It turned out that syphilis was so terrible in those days, and the probability of cure for syphilis was only half, and the fertility was lost because of taking arsenic.

Out of Africa quotes

  • Karen Blixen: When you go away... you don't always go on safari, do you? Just want to be away.

Denys: It's not meant to hurt you.

    Karen Blixen: It does.

Denys: I'm with you because I choose to be with you. I don't want to live someone else's idea of how to live. Don't ask me to do that. I don't want to find out one day that I'm at the end of someone else's life.

  • Kamante: I think that you had better get up. I think that God is coming.
