Indian movies that don't dance are not just cool movies

Telecom operator Vijay is a kind and upright man. Although he is an orphan, from a low-level background, and has only reached the fourth grade of primary school, he has a good career and a harmonious family with his own efforts.

But no one thought that such a stable and ordinary life would be destroyed by an uninvited guest on a rainy night. Vijay's eldest daughter, Anju, accidentally kills the police chief's son, Sam. In order to protect the family, Vijay decides to create a seamless plan to help his daughter cross the sea.

The above is the main plot of the Indian movie "Manslaughter to hide from the sky". There are endless discussions about whether Vijay's plan is truly seamless. But this article does not want to conform to the crowd, and wants to talk about something that is rarely mentioned.

The film is based on the Indian novel The Contest. It is worth mentioning that the film and television works adapted from it are no less than four in India alone. In 2019, domestic theaters also put this story on the big screen. Just to avoid some well-known risks, the background of the story is set in Thailand, and the ending has been greatly changed.

In "Manslaughter and Concealing the Sky", in order to protect the family, Wei Jie fought wits and courage with the police and staged a trick to hide the sky and the sea. In the end, the police were defeated, and Vijay and his family returned to live a stable life. Such a story is inherently cool, so much that most Amway calls it a high-scoring cool film. But just looking at it as a brain-burning cool film, it will undoubtedly appear thin.

True to the name of the original novel, the core of the storytelling is a contest between two forces. The most obvious confrontation took place between Vijay, the suspect, and the police, who were investigating the truth of the case.

The police ignored people like Vijay from the start. They believe that civilians like Vijay can get everything they want if they are deterred. But this attitude made them hit a nail with Vijay. So they bared their fangs.

When dealing with previous cases, the police's common trick is to control the suspect first, obtain confessions violently, and then look for physical evidence based on the confessions. This trick has been tried a hundred times in the past, but this time, Vijay and his family refused to admit it and never changed their minds. The police knew they had lied, but there was no proof, not even an application for a polygraph.

Only then did the police realize that Vijay was smarter and stronger than they thought. All the evidence the police can find is what he wants the police to find. In other words, all the actions of the police are under Vijay's control. Of course, this is thanks to Vijay being a movie buff.

As the audience, we can clearly know that Anju is the perpetrator, and Vijay's behavior is hiding it for her. But we would unconsciously defend Vijay, believing that what he did was right. In addition to sympathy for Anjiu, such emotion largely comes from a bad impression of the police's violent law enforcement.

People can accept violence against a bad person, but they cannot accept violence against a good person. But good people and bad people cannot be easily determined. Heinous criminals may be extra filial to their parents, and students with excellent academic performance may raise a butcher's knife to strangers. Too many things support the fact that human nature is too complex to be judged by good or bad.

Speaking of the movie itself, Vijay is not born to stand on the opposite side of the police. He treats relatives and friends very friendly, never cheats or cheats in business, loves his wife, and cares about his daughter. By worldly definitions, he was definitely a good guy. It is undoubtedly a tragedy that such a good person has to go on the road of crime.

And the source of this tragedy is the uninvited guest Sam who broke into the Vijay family without authorization. Sam is the son of the Commissioner of Police, so he has been in a honeypot since birth, with wind and rain. The doting of his parents left him without the slightest reverence.

At summer camp, Sam met Anjou. In order to persecute Anjiu, he secretly filmed a video of her taking a bath and said, "If you are not obedient, I will upload the video to the Internet and discredit your family." It is not difficult to see from this how low the status of women in India is. It was obviously Sam who made the mistake, but it was the Anjiu family who ultimately bore the consequences.

Maybe some people say that Sam's mother, Mira, is not the Commissioner of the Police Department? This shows that women in India have the opportunity to hold important positions. Not to mention that Mila is obviously a high-caste woman, from the fact that she is in a high position, but her behavior is no different from that of a male police officer, it can only prove that in order to obtain resources, she must become like a man. In fact, she never apologized to the Vijay family when she learned that Sam had secretly filmed Anjou. Vijay's wife, however, was always uneasy about hurting her son.

Although the Vijay family eventually escaped the punishment of the law, it is not difficult to see from the title that Vijay's life is not destined to be exactly the same as before. After such a scene, he became a celebrity. The police also paid more attention to him. As long as there is one person looking for Sam, his life will not return to peace. But before that, he can hide it for as long as he can. This is the way he chooses to protect his family.
