In Shaolin Soccer, there are so many hidden social ideas to show Stephen Chow attitude. The first plot is that the Shaolin brothers in the beginning of the film and they live in HongKong are very tight which pick up garbage, wash dishes and so on. Comparing those rich people who work in the office and wear great appearance and rich suit, Chinese kung fu has no meaning in modern society. You cannot earn any money even they are Kung Fu master. According to the Christopher Deacy, Elisaebth Arweck (p205, 2010) mentions that the children of Shaolin, who have great martial arts skills, are useless in a rapidly developing society. They were sent to learn Kung Fu by their parents from an early age without any survival skills in modern life. Finally defeated by the real life and gave up their Kung Fu dreams and hard to alive.
In fact, The Shaolin brothers, also reflect the situation of Hong Kong people, who are uncertain about their future. After China's accession to the WTO and rapid economic development, many people worry about being eliminated by China's rapid economic and human resource development (Bona Lee). After China entered the millennium, the accelerated economy and the demand for skills was very specific which means that all people who do not have modern commercial value will be given up in this society. Only continuous learning and progress can survive in a stressful society.
Finally, this electricity also directly reflects the values we should have as the social grass roots is perseverance and determination. The whole film is constantly emphasizing that people must have a dream, or it will be like salted fish. The fire that encourages people's hearts can never go out.
