Choose whatever life you want

I haven't seen such a favorite movie in a long time.

I just recently read a book discussing how "consumerism" constructs women, and how women are placed in a "subordinate" social status.

The film is set in the 1950s in the United States. It was an era when society expected women to be a perfect housewife. The value of women was determined by their husbands. At that time, girls' schools were designed to cultivate women into Housekeeping experts, and therefore derived the housekeeping profession. The Republic of China from the 1930s to the 1940s was also influenced by the American culture and began to educate young Chinese girls in a similar way, placing girls in a "vassal" position without exception.

With the awakening of the so-called female consciousness, this educational model and the social structure that constructs women are constantly being criticized by feminists, but I think that it is only by imprisoning myself in this shackle that there will be such "resistance". To resist" is to change others or prove something, it is all "lies". It is undeniable that girls take the advantage of such a context to some extent, and at the same time become "puppets" sincerely. I want to say that when "criticizing", people should more objectively and comprehensively understand the truth of the facts. .

I think the purpose of education is not to reinforce a stereotype and instill a certain ideology, but to give us more perspectives on problems and the world. As girls, we enjoy the achievements of our predecessors over the past century, receive education, learn to think, and have the right to choose our own lives.

What we should really face is, what do we really want? Instead of "resisting" for the sake of "resisting", "walking" aimlessly.

I really liked the scene in the movie where Julia gave up the opportunity to study law at Yale to speak to her teacher Katherine. She is very grateful that Katherine came to let her know what she wants? She feels that if she wakes up one day and doesn't go to college at Yale, she won't be unhappy if she doesn't become a lawyer, but if she loses the opportunity to be a wife and mother, she will regret it for the rest of her life.

And Betty, another girl who followed the rules in that era, used the most powerful action to "be herself". After marriage, she divorced due to her husband's betrayal under the pressure of huge public opinion. The most unlikely people do the bravest things.

What I want to say most here is that having a "family" and "marriage" certainly does not mean the end of a girl's life, we can have both it and a career. When we make life choices, we also need to be prepared to take on the responsibilities behind them.

Don't regret it, don't blame the "system" or "society" for the consequences of your choices. How do you know that there are no people in this world who have the same understanding as you to create the life you want. Isn't it important and easier to think about changing yourself?

Small individuals, short lives, the saddest thing is not that society doesn't let us do what we want and become who we want to be, but because we spend time "criticizing" and become the least favorite when we are young man's appearance.
