This Spanish Film Festival chose his film without much thought. I didn't watch the plot introduction because I didn't like being spoiled, and I only knew that it was related to the sea. Javier on the poster is considered a heroic figure. It is said that he was 35 years old when the show was filmed; there may be a part about memories because there is an elderly man in the poster. Coupled with the award of an Oscar-winning film, it makes people even more interested.
After watching the movie, I realized that this drama was originally thinking about the meaning of life. It is called "Eternal Sleep in the Deep Sea". In fact, the sea is only the spiritual clue of the film. The part that I thought was a memory is actually the main body of the film. The elderly man lying on the bed is Ramon, played by Javier Bardem, who is unyielding in his appeal for the legalization of euthanasia. Brad Pitt also had a movie in which one person played two roles. I feel that Javier's version is more physical and spiritual, only the pair of blue eyes full of vitality and the iconic high bridge of the nose make me sure that it is indeed him. More than 90% of the scenes in the whole film are completed by him lying on the bed, relying entirely on rich expressions and language to express the characters' personalities and feelings. Although he has no attachment to life, he will still love and be loved.
While the story is simple, the structure of the narrative is engaging. Julia and Ramon's book finally came out, but the film didn't say much about why Julia didn't come. There are only two shots of Julia and an unread letter. Ramon has no reason to live any longer. He left and went to the depths of the sea to find his lover.
What life is for is actually not a topic that everyone wants to explore. The so-called meaning may be Javier's inadvertent but deeply hurt Ramon's words; when he finally chased Ramon's car away in tears, he should have understood the meaning of the words that Ramon wrote for him in the book. Maybe it's because of being missed by someone you love.
