meet you in the wasteland

The works I have read in the past two days seem to be both gloomy and gentle, like reminiscences, like elegy, as if the dark river flows slowly in silence.

Under the tone of grief, the world is absurd, chaotic, depressing, and fragmented. Small individuals fall, fall, fall, and fall in the boundless abyss. Without light, mad babbling worms pierce all souls, wailing, screaming, pulling at each other, and eventually turning into dust, stone, or monsters.

"Transcendence" is a lyric poem, a piano piece, an empty but meaningful gaze. The melancholy Adrien and the innocent and charming Sami, like thin blue fireworks in the dark night, add a touch of warmth to the wasteland.

Emphasizing tenderness with cruelty, watering dreams and love with depression and nothingness, we know that all we do is just build sand castles on the ruins of life, and the tide will eventually wash it down again, but we still enjoy it and foolishly look forward to the future.

Most of the time we are slowly withering away, but occasionally we meet someone who lights us up and makes us young again.

blank, childish stare

Adrien's eyes are always so melancholy, so sad.

A blue lake.

Detachment quotes

  • Henry Barthes: How are you to imagine anything if the images are always provided for you?

Henry Barthes: Doublethink. To deliberately believe in lies, while knowing they're false.

Henry Barthes: Examples of this in everyday life: "Oh, I need to be pretty to be happy. I need surgery to be pretty. I need to be thin, famous, fashionable." Our young men today are being told that women are whores, bitches, things to be screwed, beaten, shit on, and shamed. This is a marketing holocaust. Twenty-four hours a day for the rest of our lives, the powers that be are hard at work dumbing us to death.

Henry Barthes: So to defend ourselves, and fight against assimilating this dullness into our thought processes, we must learn to read. To stimulate our own imagination, to cultivate our own consciousness, our own belief systems. We all need skills to defend, to preserve our own minds.

  • Henry Barthes: [agitated at assisted living nurse] Let me be very clear here, you stop neglecting his needs, or I will start fucking with yours! I will have you fired! Then it's going to be your family! Your children are gonna be at risk! You got it?
