The point of the movie is to be funny rather than reasoning, so it makes sense that the plot is simple. As for the key under the French horn, I think Peter deliberately let Heaney find it, after all, the former has already thought he has no way out and has set a death date for the latter. In addition, the unpleasant point of this film is probably Heaney's boundless answers and trembling at critical moments, but after all, this is also a major feature of this character.
