The last ten years have been a decade of superhero movies, and the two major comic companies, Marvel and DC, have made a lot of money.
However, the overly homogenized movie content, the superheroes who are always just and dignified and full of preaching, have already made the audience feel fatigued, so some unconventional and anti-routine superheroes have begun to appear on the screen, such as Deadpool, Venom, Shazam ...
In particular, the popularity of Deadpool has made the tactile filmmakers discover the potential of "superhero + R-rated films" to attract money, so there is an R-rated "Wolverine 3".
In this regard, Deadpool also complained in the second part of the movie that "Wolverine 3" was changed to an R-rated movie after seeing his movie making money.
Friends who have watched Deadpool (specifically, the unabridged version, not the family-friendly version released in China) will be shocked by the amount of blood, violence and sexual innuendo in the film: this is actually a superhero movie.
However, when it comes to bloody and violent superheroes, it is by no means only Deadpool. The more famous ones are the "Punishers" of Marvel's fellows, and the "Laughter" and "Rorschach" in the DC Watchmen next door.
Perhaps for this reason, the new version of "Hellboy" in 2019 emphasizes the tyrannical and bloody side of the film, which can be seen from the change of the film's rating from PG-13 to R.
The film spends a lot of space to depict some bloody scenes. The bloody amputated limbs, wreckage, and organs are presented to the audience in close-up shots. It is not like a superhero movie at all, but more like a Cult plasma horror film.
The shapes of some characters also lack realism and look a little cheap.
The biggest problem with the film is that it amplifies the bloody and terrifying plot to become the focus of the characterization, rather than serving as a catalyst and auxiliary material to enrich the character and emotion of the protagonist like Deadpool.
The worthless and crude use of the sensory stimulation of visual impact may make the character of Hellboy seem thin and unconvincing, weakening its important human side, and more like a savage monster.
But aside from the comparison with old movies and comics, compared to some brainless cult films, the overall structure of this film is still complete, the editing and soundtrack are also remarkable, and I like violent and horror movies. Viewers may also feel that there is a fire.
Not to mention that there is also a blood queen wearing a tulle with a half-exposed chest, and there are also many "watches".
There are three easter eggs after the film. It seems that Dark Horse Comics also intends to create its own movie universe. At least it is not a big problem to have a sequel.
However, judging from the performance of this work, it is far from satisfactory. It may not be easy for Dark Horse Comics to get a share of the superhero comic film market divided by Marvel and DC.
