the summer started with irreconcilable differences between the inarculate father & disobedient daughter. the father bailed and left the family years ago, and since then the daughter gave up herself on schoolings, goofing around with pierced-something friends, and even her terrific talents on piano. she became hard-to-get and disguised herself with ice-cube acts. she gradually had a crush on a local boy who kinda changed her and opened her heart. they together survived those innocent turtles which almost got killed by raccoons. as things got a little smoother, they found out that the father got a cancer and was near to die. the mom brought the little bro back to NY and the girl decided to stay with her dad in the last remaining months. the gap between them finally hushed up. the girl helped her dad accomplish the song dad wrote for her.the dad passed away in peace.

"It meant the world to him to have you here.

Every time a light shines through that window we built, or any window at all. That's me, OK? I'm not going away.

Dear Ronnie, I missed the hours we spent together at the piano. I miss being your teacher. I know you see me as having left you. But when your mother and I split up, I was in a lot of pain. I just needed to come home. I regret moving away from you and Jonah more than anything. I hope you'll forgive me. Your mom tells me you completedly failed your SATs, but I know how smart you have to be to get every single question wrong. Congratulations, Ronnie. I've told you before that none of what had happened to your mother and me had anything to do with you and Jonah.

Love is fragile. And we're not always its best caretakers. We just muddle through and do the best we can. And hope this fragile thing survives against all odds.

You didn't even know who you are, Ronnie. You're the kindest, sweetest, most beautiful daughter in the whole world.

Someday you're gonna open your heart and you're gonna paly again. And it's not gonna be to make your mother happy. And it's not gonna be to make me happy. It'll be for you. Because, music and love...they're gonna bring you joy.

We're not perfect. Any of us. We make mistakes, we screw up. But then we forgive and move forward. At least you have the courage to feel, you feel everything so deeply."

The Last Song quotes

  • Steve Miller: Ronnie...

Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller: You lied to me dad.

    Steve Miller: I didn't lie.

Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller: Yes you did. You said you were fine. You're not fine! That was a lie!

Steve Miller: I hoped. I didn't lie it's not the same thing.

Steve Miller: It's alright to be angry.

    Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller: Good!

    [pause]

Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller: Is this why you brought me here this summer?

    [pause]

Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller: Is it? So you wouldn't have to be alone while-.

    [Crying]

Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller: Why didn't you tell us?

Steve Miller: It's not what I wanted this time to be about.

Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller: Well it is. It is now, daddy...

Steve Miller: It's not. This is just another... another part of our terrific summer. Not one of the better parts I admit.

Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller: [Crying] I love you.

Steve Miller: Sweetie, I love you too.

Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller: [She lays down with him in his hospital bed, crying] I love you, daddy.

  • Will Blakelee: Evening!

[he puts his chair on the sand. Then takes out a lantern]

Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller: Are ya movin' in?

Will Blakelee: Hey, if I wanna get some sleep, I'm gonna need something to scare off the racoons. They don't like bright lights or music.

[pulls out a radio and turns it on]

Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller: You're planning to sleep here?

Will Blakelee: Well, the truth is, the town sorta got together and we decided we just couldn't take another one of your bad hair days.

Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller: [she hits him with her book repeatedly] What's the matter with you?

Jonah Miller: [from the porch] This doesn't look good. You're not okay with this, are you?

Steve Miller: [shakes his head 'no']

Jonah Miller: Then we better maintain visual contact.

Steve Miller: [nods his head 'yes']
