Obviously many audiences are going for Al Pacino, but no amount of good actors can save an uncreative director and screenwriter, and the film doesn't break out of the box in the end.
The ending was not as brilliant as the directors and screenwriters hoped, but on the contrary made the audience doubt the character of the old policeman who killed more than a dozen wicked people who should have been punished by law in the name of justice. How can a good police officer of ordinary people live with peace of mind?
At the end of the film, there was an opportunity to jump out of the cliché, that is, when Robert's girlfriend, who is also a policeman, confronted Al Pacino and Robert with a gun, if the director asked this not retarded policewoman to expose the farce of the two old policemen, and Trying to arrest Robert and bring him to justice, in arranging a suicide ending for Robert, at least passed the level of authenticity.
Unfortunately, it was another "perfect" ending, Robert retired and lived a peaceful life with his girlfriend.
This is a disappointing film that is also not in vain because of the wonderful performances of several protagonists. At the end of the day, great performances, old-fashioned stories, and yet another American product of decent quality but lackluster.
