everybody is a Martyr

An excellent surrealist film that feels similar to the cube.

When I first started watching it, I was confused. When Anna was tied up and had a conversation with the old woman, I understood. Although Lucy escaped, she still did not get rid of the torture of her hellish mind. She ended her life in imaginary fear and despair. I think, probably when Lucy died, she didn't understand why all this happened, and she didn't understand that the monster that had been tormenting her was actually a product she imagined because of her psychological trauma. If she understood this, maybe she could try to overcome try to get rid of. And Anna, she understood too late. In the end, what did she see? Her words completely collapsed the belief of the cult leader. What is the other world after death? There is nothing, it is still a confused unknown.

A cult is actually a belief, but a distorted belief. Personally, I feel that the film seems to be criticizing and ridiculing. Human beings have been deliberately exploring, trying to understand and master everything. In the end, they will only find that they are a martyr, and this is just their own wishful thinking. There is no truth and no eternal faith at all, so, whether it is fame or profit, it is just a kind of self-comforting sustenance for living. What is the real meaning of life? Does this question make sense in itself?

    Mademoiselle: Keep doubting.

  • Lucie: Is this making you sick? Can you smell that smell? Smells awful, huh? Every time she bent over me, I could smell that, every day. Understand? And it smelled different when she beat me.
