Young Cage, mediocre Lynch

Recently, I became obsessed with David Lynch and the psychedelic and dreamlike scenes in his films, so I looked around and found this "Wild at Heart" filmed in the early 1990s.
That year, Cage was 26 and Lynch was 44.
We can't look at a 16-year-old film with today's demanding eyes, but this Lynch-esque road movie left me a little disappointed. The puzzling Lynch, who didn't get hooked until he read the movie review, is gone, or to be exact, he hasn't appeared yet. And the mature Cage with deep eyes has not yet appeared.
In the last scene of the film, Cage hugged his lover and sang "love me tender" affectionately, which should have been a very touching scene, but I didn't like this design. In exchange for today's Lynch to make this film, it may bring us more surprises.
In addition, some people say that the heroine is too ugly, but I think she looks comfortable and has good acting skills.
Looking forward to seeing Lynch's other films "lost in highway", "the Straight story"...
