sing street

The story starts with 'we need to form a band', a futuristic band is formed.

It feels closer to the Anglo-American rock style of the 1980s. How can I say it, I deeply understand [no rock, no youth].

The story of youth is probably Happy sad. Conar's brother said, it's like 'there is a place where you can rest assured that you are not happy'. For this group of children playing band, music is probably such a place. You can feel sad behind happiness.

I really like when one or two people say 'let's do it!' when they are about to perform, very cool! Like when conar goes to chat with Raphina, he probably won't bother to say 'what should I do, how am I going to talk to such a cool girl like her...' or something like that.

The process of growing up is to passively absorb all kinds of "pain of youth" - the first love that cannot be loved, the parents who are always arguing, the parents' love that makes people incomprehensible, the terrifying school violence and unscrupulous teachers... ...after all of this, figure out a way to create something, not destroy something - "you're not to create"

I thought it was a musical, but I didn't expect the music in it to be so good! It's looping now

drive it like you stole it...

i was on my way to find you...

finally, for brothers everywhere

I really like the feeling of this grassroots band in Dublin. Youth is to sing on the street, to wear sunglasses to blow up the street, and to sing happily after a lot of impatience and disappointment!

by the way, like the feeling of "singing through the street".

Sing Street quotes

  • Eamon: So how do you mean you're "happy-sad"?

Darren: Yeah, how're we supposed to market that?

Conor: It means we're not pop anymore.

Eamon: We were pop? Listen, I'm happy being anything. I just want to play music.

Conor: That's fine. Be who you are, Eamon.

    Eamon: Well, I don't know who I am. Maybe I'm happy-sad, too. I don't know.

  • Darren: What does "happy-sad" even mean? How can we be both things? It makes no sense.

Conor: It means that I'm stuck in this shithole full of morons and rapists and bullies, and I'm gonna deal with it, okay? It's just how life is. I'm gonna try and accept it and get on with it, and make some art.

Eamon: So how does that affect our music?

    Conor: Positively.
