Singing on the Street: Youth in Singing

I watched Sing Street on the plane, and never took the time to seriously think about what it was about. I just found it very cute and very fond of it when I watched it. I have no knowledge of music, and I haven't seen the director's well-received previous work. I just think this story is very close and far away. Ireland, Lower School, Band. I didn't have a broken family and high school bullies, but I didn't do any of the cool things Conor did either. There is no one who falls in love at first sight and ends up together, and there is no group of like-minded good friends who can make an entrance. I'm just a passerby they find on the fly who doesn't know anything, except that I'm really good at dancing but that doesn't matter. I also don't understand why I like it, it's not very inspirational, it just doesn't make sense for me to give up my studies to pursue my music dreams, there's nothing I like that much. Maybe it's just another possibility in life, an impossible possibility.

I feel like I said a lot of nonsense, maybe the important thing is to be moved by this story and sincerely happy for Coner and his bandmates and the girl he likes. I only think about those because of some similarities to my background. The music is beautiful, but I also said that I don't understand music, so, so be it.

Sing Street quotes

  • Conor: Ok, so this is our last song. It's called Brown Shoes. And it's for every Christian Brother and for every bully you ever knew.

  • Evan: What style would you say you were?

    Conor: I'm a futurist.

Evan: Epic. See you in the future, then.
