death and loneliness

This is a film about death and loneliness.

The psychic George lost his ability to live a normal life, including sleep and love, because he was able to link to the world of death and knew too much about people and things.

The female anchor Marie left the anchor station, left the man of the past, and started a brand new journey because she had died and turned her life into a world that could not forget her death.

The little boy Marcus's twin brother, Jason, died unexpectedly, and it has been hard to let go for a long time.

Three parallel lines meet at the London Book Fair. George meets Marie. Marcus clutched at the life-saving straw George, finally letting go of the past and looking to the future. The sentence "he is you, you are him. one cell, always" almost brought tears to my eyes. Under the impetus of Marcus, George mustered the courage for the first time, bravely pursued true love, and completed the much-criticized bloody ending of the film.

In order to meet in less than 30 minutes in the last, 3/4 of the whole film is used to pave the way. It is really long and complicated, and there are almost no clues and hints about the relationship between the characters between the three lines, which makes people see it. I am very depressed, I still miss the solid storytelling of Dongmutou; but an old guy like him, who is no longer tired of fame, is also a pleasure for movie fans in his twilight years.

Hereafter quotes

  • George Lonegan: Sometimes, I mean you know, knowing everything about someone, uhhh, its, uh, it seems nice, but really, maybe it's-it's actually better to hold stuff back.

  • George Lonegan: I'm sorry, I'm losing him now. He's... he's leaving. He wants to leave.

Marcus: No, Jase. Don't go. You can't.

    [starts crying]

Marcus: Don't leave me. I don't wanna be here without you. Please, Jase, don't go. I miss you.

George Lonegan: Okay, he came back. He's here. He says if you're worried about being on your own, don't be. You're not. Because he is you and you are him. One cell. One person. Always.
