Iron Sky - an Orwellian comedy

No one is better suited for the lead role in this film than Gorz Otto. After all, in "The Destruction of the Empire", he is the man standing behind the head of state. So, whenever he calls out Heil Hitler, I'm kind of watching de ja vu from The Destruction of an Empire. In fact, my first thought after watching this film was to find out "The Destruction of an Empire" and watch it again. Not only Otto himself, but also the classic passage "The Wrath of the Fuhrer" in "The Destruction of the Empire" was spoofed. It's just that body language is lacking.
The ups and downs of the fate of "Steel Sky" will not be repeated. The legendary investment of 7 million euros can produce this effect, and the director's control of the cost has reached an astonishing level. At least the ones in space are still prudent. Of course, if you want to reach the level of Star Wars, it is difficult for a strongman. With such a small cost, he obviously cannot be an excellent sci-fi film. In fact, there are too many flaws in the film, such as how the Nazis walked on the surface of the moon without wearing a space suit with only a gas mask. As a result, it became a somewhat interesting comedy.
The director obviously doesn't want the audience to think that this is a hard sci-fi film. The bizarre and hilarious opening music sets the tone of the film, and then the two "Yes Can" banners become the finishing touch of the music. So far, at least I haven't treated him as a sci-fi movie anymore. The subsequent development of the plot is also more and more like an American spoof like "Scream": the prototype is Palin's female president, and the speech of the representative of North Korea is even more irritating, and so on.
Next, I'm going to say why it's an "Orwellian" comedy. The key word is "The Great Dictator" interspersed in the film. The Great Dictator appears a total of three times in the film: the first time, the 10-minute truth version. The second time, the cinema full version. The third time, the ending song is inserted into the speech of the great dictator. Although it is not very conspicuous, it is crucial to the direction of the whole plot. After watching the full version of the movie, the heroine's understanding of the Nazis has undergone earth-shaking changes, and she still draws a clear line with the hero and devotes herself to the vigorous People's Liberation War. This arrangement of the plot is a bit abrupt, but I think what the director wants to express is: people who live in a society similar to "1984" suddenly come to the real world, and the strong contrast makes their accumulated worldview collapse. .
We can estimate that the Nazis on the moon undoubtedly lived in a society like "1984". Isolated from the world, all publications are censored, even "The Great Dictator" was released as a crab version, which became a film praising the Nazis. The young people here don't know what happened before 1945, only that they came to the moon in 1945. The scenarios are so similar, if you change the year from 2018 to 1984, "World War II" to "British Socialist Revolution", "Führer" to "Big Brother", and "Doctor's Lab" to " Room 101", there is no sense of violation at all. The world of "1984" is set in the world of "Steel Sky," and it is such a match. Therefore, it is an Orwellian worldview and an Orwellian comedy.
Finally, a tribute to the great Charlie Chaplin by quoting the last speech in The Great Dictator:
Dictators set themselves free, but enslave others. Now, let's fight to fulfill that promise! Let's fight for a free world, fight for the removal of the barriers of the state, fight for greed, hatred and intolerance, let's fight for a just world.
