Thank you for the infinite tenderness in your gaze

All about my mother.

This is the third time I've watched this movie, after about 8 years.

The first time was probably the first time I heard the name of Almodovar, and I frantically found all his films to watch, and almost chewed those films that seemed grotesque, eye-opening, full of emotion and unfamiliar at the time. To a certain extent, he filled my imagination of Spain, those women who can transform themselves for the sake of identity, forbear for many years, and make exaggerated self-changes. "All About My Mother" does not have exaggerated emotions and story arcs, but events are connected in series to promote the narrative. As a heterosexual at the time, maybe that was all for me.

The second time I watched it was probably still a few years ago. I clearly remember that when I watched it again, I just thought it was a brand new movie. I don’t remember any of the characters’ stories and plots, including the ost. I was just surprised and surprised myself of forgetfulness.

I accidentally saw it again on mubi today, and I clicked this movie again, wanting to surf with the gentle power created by Almodovar again. But this time was different. Finally, finally this time, I remembered the character's name, the plot, a certain plot, and even understood Almodovar from another angle, and even understood the reason for his forgetfulness.

Is there anyone who can understand better than he does about women and life?

Regarding the name, the definition of the name in contemporary society is more of a code name, which can simplify the relationship in the workplace. Most of the time we forget the shaping of a person's identity by the name. Here, the importance of the name is for the relationship. Strengthening and the carrier of emotions, at the same time, they are separated from the conferring of patriarchal power, and are only used as simple emotional carriers. The three people use the same name and are associated with the same woman. Under the language of Almodovar's lens, there seems to be a relationship. An emotional carrying capacity that travels through time and space.

City, in the past world, the city seems to be the door of different time and space. When you open it, you can discover the past or future life, as if the smell there is always waiting for you. Under the epidemic and the rapidly changing world shape, I am not sure whether such a gate of time and space still exists, and whether the women in some cities I pass by are still waiting, waiting for a new narrative.

Woman, yes, woman. It is a pity that tolerance, twist on time and space, and eyes full of passionate love for the world are beauty that non-feminists cannot see. Then, it is impossible to understand the story motivation and language expression of the characters under the lens of Almodovar. Therefore, I have the memory of the exaggerated plot, which I watched 8 years ago, instead of subjectively eliminating the emotional load in it.

Just like the world of women in Luca Guadagnino, I observed Almodovar as if I had entered a new narrative, about his choice to completely abandon the male narrative, about his infinite tenderness towards love and affection, about his Another expansion of female power in the film.

Yes, thank you for the infinite tenderness in your gaze.
