Truth

Hmm~ After reading the following is my personal experience of watching the movie: The
criminal Chirs had a plan from the beginning. He did not choose him because of his pure admiration for Mike’s literary talent, but through Mike’s article (especially the one in Africa The article led to Mike's resignation. Later, Mike also admitted that he had lied in some ways.) It made him realize Mike's weakness, that is, Mike wants a story that appeals to everyone, "a head of story" said. Right, so Chirs learned how to use rhetoric to express his innocence and pity under the guise of learning to write. In his later statement, he obviously adopted Mike's statement...
Many details are emphasized in the film, such as Chirs watching Mike. There are obvious changes in his eyes. His constant conversion in order to win Mike’s sympathy made Mike think he knew the "so-called" facts. He also tried to talk to Jill to show that he had an unusual relationship with Mike. Jill believes in himself.
Chirs’ intentions can be expressed in many details of the movie, that is, his wife’s relatives told Mike that Chirs did not "pick up u, he used u" and it turned out to be true.
Personally, I feel that the climax of the whole story lies in what Mike’s wife Jill said when he went to meet Chirs. It was based on the incident of a musician killing his wife and children in 1611 (do you think it is surprisingly similar to Chirs’s thing)? Exposing Chirs' lies, thoroughly proved that Chirs was guilty and tried to clean up his guilt. But fortunately, Mike recognized everything when Chirs was speaking, and he also saw Chirs's next routine clearly, so he only said that when he met Chirs for the last time at the end of the film.
In this way, I have to mention the interaction that Mike made with Chirs (you can call it this way), which means that two people describe their first reaction with one word. Among them, Mike mentioned lies, the other person who both wrote to each other. I personally feel that Mike is intuitive, but every time Chirs writes, he observes Mike before writing, so the whole process may be guessing what Mike is thinking, so I didn’t write it for the first time because I was still speculating. Get closer to Mike.
The brain-burning part of the film is that it focuses on the depiction of the body and expressions of the characters. It feels that the actor who plays Chirs is also a cow. The details of the changes in the eyes in the dialogue with Mike are also explained very well. I really recommend it.

True Story quotes

  • Christian Longo: I haven't seen a woman in so long... looking at you is like seeing the ocean.

Jill Barker: I'm more of a pond, I think.

  • Jill Barker: [In the prison visiting room, talking to Christian Longo] Can I play you something?

[Jill reaches for her iPhone, presses play and beautiful music is heard]

Jill Barker: Se La Mia Morte Brami. If You Crave My Death. Carlo Gesualdo wrote it in 1611. A few years after killing his wife and newborn son. His wife had a lover so he tracked them down with a hunting knife. He stabbed her many, many times all over her body, and as she was bleeding to death on the floor, he forced the lover to strip her naked, put on her bloody nightdress and humiliate himself, before shooting him in the head. Then he went upstairs and beat his infant son to death against the side of his crib. The music is almost beautiful enough to make me forget I am listening to something written by a man who broke his baby's skull on a piece of furniture... but not quite.

    [Jill stops the music]

Jill Barker: You see Mike wants to try and understand you. I think he believes that if he can understand you then maybe he can understand himself, but I don't wanna understand you at all. You're a murderer. You kill women and children. You're a narcissist who resents every single second of attention not given to you. I'm here to tell you that whatever else is coming to you, you will never ever escape what you are.

[Jill stands up and leaves the visiting room]
