At the end of the movie, Calvin finally lets Ruby go and gives her a new life. It also gave them a chance to start over. Maybe you think this is a happy ending for movies, but I would say no. When Calvin tried everything, he still saw that the pain he had brought to Ruby had far outweighed the joy, and he made such a decision with a kind heart. Not everyone has the opportunity to discover their own mistakes, and not everyone is able to correct them in a timely manner, or persist until they are fixed.
