Page 9Cora performs her sexy religious MTV video. She adopts a very calm and spiritual persona. She tells Alex that she wants him to write a new song called “Way back to love” by the end of the week.(PHYSICAL OPPORTUNITY FOR ALEX: GOAL WITH A TICKING CLOCK)
Page 12Alex freaks out about the new challenge. But his manager tells him that things are not looking good and they need this opportunity to boost his career up as new performers are emerging on the market all the time. It's do or die for Alex, but he hasn't written a song for ten years. (A CHARACTER WHO IS AT THE END OF HIS ROPE. IT'S ACTUALLY THE WORST THING BECAUSE IF NOT FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY, HIS MANAGER WOULDN'T HAVE TOLD HIM HOW DESPERATE THE SITUATION IS FOR ALEX .)
Page 14Alex is having an awful time with the lyrist that his manager introduced. Until the plant girl Sophie comes to do the plant and comes up with great lyrics inadvertently, which pisses the lyricist off and away.(EMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY FOR ALEX: MEETING THE TALENTED SOPHIE)
Page 17When Alex tries to hire her as a lyricist, but no matter how he tries to impress her with his history and Cora, she still won't agree to do the song. He tells her in desperation that he will perform in Hilton tonight. (NEW DESPERATE SITUATION: ALEX TRIES EVERYTHING TO CONVINCE SOPHIE TO WORK WITH HIM.)
Page 19Sophie plays with her sister's kids until her sister comes back from movie with her husband. She had a hard time enjoying her dinner as she is about to open a new weight-loss center. Sophie's sister freaks out when Sophie tells him about meeting Alex Fletcher and rushes out.
Page 20Alex performs for the housewives. Sophie's sister is so excited that she comes to feel Alex's bottom. After the show, they meet and although Sophie continues to show her brilliance on creating lyrics, she still won't help.
Page 25Alex goes to the weight loss center to convince her to help him by singing a song that she mentioned the night before. She is moved but she is still hesitant. But eventually she agrees and comes back to the apartment with him.(CHANGE OF PLAN: SOPHIE FINALLY AGREES TO WORK WITH ALEX BY CHARMING HER WITH A SONG THAT HE WROTE)
Page 28Alex and Sophie discuss the possible lyrics over night. They argue about which is more important, music or lyrics.
Page 30Alex and Sophie go out for a walk as they don't know how to go on. Alex talks about his past without reservation and Sophie is moved and inspired.(EMOTIONAL PROGRESS: SOPHIE KNOWS MORE ABOUT ALEX'S PAST AS THEY WRITE THE SONG)
Page 32The next morning, Alex and Sophie go out for breakfast after Sophie's insistence. Suddenly, she freaks out when she sees the book cover of Slone Gates. When Alex offers to help, she talks about her painful past of her affair with Slone. ( EMOTIONAL PROGRESS: ALEX KNOWS MORE ABOUT SOPHIE)
Page 35Alex and Sophie argues about the importance of books or songs. Alex also offers the solution of fighting depression: writing a song about how depressed he is.(COMPLICATIONS FROM SOPHIE: ALEX HELPS WITH SOPHIE'S EMOTIONAL PROBLEM)
Page 37Alex and Sophie perform for the gate man. They fight about her handwriting and Sophie keeps moving Alex's furniture. Sophie keeps trying to be perfect about the melody and lyrics. They finally perform for the gate man, but he claims that he is tone- deaf.(COMPLICATIONS FROM THEIR CONFLICTS OF WORKING TOGETHER: HOW IMPORTANT LYRICS IS; SOPHIE'S HANDWRITING AND MOVING OF FURNITURE; SOPHIE WANTS TO BE PERFECT AND ALEX JUST WANTS TO GET THE JOB)
Page 40Alex uses Garage band to create the song. Then they start to sing the song together.
Page 43They rush to see Cora at her private helicopter airport, where she listens to the song on the spot. After moments' nervous anticipation, Cora hugs them both and they get the job.(PHYSICAL POINT OF NO RETURN WHEN CORA LOVES THEIR SONG)
Page 45Alex and Sophie are overjoyed. When they join his manager and girlfriend for dinner, they spot Slone at the restaurant.
Page 48Alex encourages Sophie to confront Slone and helps her to borrow the dress from his manager's girlfriend.
Page 50When Sophie finally confronts him, she is speechless and Alex has to do all the talking. But Slone is doing even better because his novel is about to be made into a movie.
Page 52 When Alex won't give up and confront Slone himself, they get into a fight and Sophie is distraught. After the fight, Alex and Sophie connect emotionally and start kissing.(EMOTIONAL POINT OF NO RETURN AFTER THEY CONFRONT SOPHIE'S DEMON TOGETHER)
Page 56The next morning, we find that Alex and Sophie have slept together under the piano. Then he invites her to accompany him to a show at the amusement park, where a lot of people don't give a damn about his singing.
Page 60Alex is down because of the lack of audience. But Sophie encourages him to make him find confidence again. (EMOTIONAL HIGH STAKES)
Page 62Sophie invites Alex to dinner at her sister's. During dinner, Alex receives a call from Cora informing him to get together again to work on the song. After dinner, the big sister tries to give Sophie some advice on the relationship.
Page 67Then Alex and Sophie say goodbye to each other awkwardly. When they get home respectively, Alex reads the novel of Sally Michaels and Sophie listens to Alex's solo album.
Page 69They meet Cora, who shows them the new steamy, sticky intro of the song, which makes them very uncomfortable. Sophie wants to tell Cora the truth, but Alex disagrees. They get into an argument about the issue.(RISE OF THE ANTAGONIST WHEN THEY DISAGREE WHETHER TO TELL THE TRUTH TO CORA OR NOT)
Page 72They arrive at Cora's party. Alex stuffs food into Sophie's mouth to stop her telling Cora her opinion of the song. Although Alex tries everything to stop her, Sophie manages to spill it out. But Cora disagrees.
Page 75Sophie wants to try again but Alex thinks that he is too stubborn. Sophie tells him that she doesn't want him to repeat the mistake of his soulless solo album. But Alex thinks that she is too naïve and tells her the real world about the music business.
Page 77After they have been back to the apartment to work on the last verse of the song, Sophie is so unhappy that she couldn't write. When she wants to leave, Alex is so angry that he tells Sophie that Slone Gates was right about her, too naïve to deal with the real cold world.(EVERYTHING IS EMOTIONALLY LOST)
Page 80When Alex tries to explain to Cora why he hasn't finished the lyrics, Cora tells him that Sophie has faxed her the last verse, which surprises and moves Alex, who seems to understand what she is trying to say.(EPIPHANY FOR ALEX : HE IS INSPIRED BY THE LAST VERSE THAT SOPHIE WROTE ABOUT HER FRUSTRATION)
Page 82Alex comes to apologize to Sophie at the loss weight center. But she has decided to move to Florida to run another center. So they start to lead their own lives. Alex couldn't keep up with Cora's dance and Sophie loses all the meat in her sandwich.
Page 85The concert begins. Sophie doesn't want to go to see Alex but his sister persuades her to the show. The show begins. It truly excites the audience with the idea of Buddha and sex.
Page 88Meanwhile, Alex is at the backstage, watching the “battle of the 80s has-beens” with profound pleasure. Then Cora introduces the new song written by Alex. Sophie is distraught that they have thrown her name out. Before she can leave, she finds that what Alex is singing is actually an apologetic song for Sophie, which moves everybody. (EVERYTHING IS TRULY LOST AND EPIPHANY FOR SOPHIE)
Page 93Sophie is so excited by the song that she rushes backstage to see Alex. They kiss. On top of that, Sophie is surprised to find out that the sticky and steamy intro no longer exists. It turns out that Alex successfully convinced Cora to change it by telling her that it will help to win Sophie back.
Page 95Alex and Cora perform the song “Way back to love.” Alex didn't wait for the end of the song to kiss Sophie backstage.
Page 100Cheesy 80s MTV again, talking in text about the aftermath of the story: the movie Sally Michaels failed miserably and Alex's former partner Colin breaks his hip.
