An anonymous letter in a pink envelope prompts him to embark on an ignorant journey of discovery. It was not easy to sort out the messy past and find the woman he was looking for. Putting a CD from a friend in the car and carrying a handful of pink roses, he began to visit the women who had been in his life 20 years ago one by one, and pieced together pieces that he had long ago Forgotten memories, those emotional fragments that were once beautiful but now incomplete. In the past 20 years, a lot has changed. Facing his former lovers, he has a familiar yet unfamiliar feeling. Facing their family members, he has an indescribable embarrassment, and he does not know how to reveal his identity.
A purposeful visit, but inadvertently aroused the women's hidden feelings of the past. The years have left more or less traces of vicissitudes on their faces, but they still remember him without exception. Facing the old lover 20 years ago, the unnatural expression on his face revealed inner fluctuations, and it also hinted at the happy times or merciless harm he once brought them back then. How long does it take to forget someone? For a woman it may be a lifetime, for a man it may be just a moment.
The last visit was in the cemetery in the rain. He put a bunch of pink flowers in front of the tomb of his deceased lover, and a gentle "Hello, beauty", with a tear in his eyes, brought an end to his journey. Life goes on, and when he gets home, he finds a note left to him by his ex-girlfriend, also in a pink envelope. All this mystery ended in his encounter and conversation with a strange boy. He tried again and again to regain his lost emotions, but he still failed to do so.
Jarmusch's film is like a bland and forever prose poem, always so intriguing.
